    Description

    Our client, a prestigious national law firm, is seeking an experienced professional to lead the firm's paralegal team and independently manage complex personal injury and medical malpractice matters through all phases of litigation. This position requires a proven New York litigation background, strong judgment, and the ability to anticipate case needs, identify workflow issues, and drive matters forward without waiting for day-to-day direction. The role will partner closely with attorneys, establish consistent case-management practices, and ensure that deadlines, discovery, records, expert coordination, and trial preparation are handled accurately and efficiently. This is a full-time, in-office position; it is not available as a remote or hybrid role.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead, mentor, and provide day-to-day direction to the paralegal team, including work allocation, prioritization, training, and quality review
    • Independently manage a portfolio of complex personal injury and medical malpractice matters from intake through resolution or trial
    • Develop, monitor, and improve case-management workflows to ensure files progress proactively and consistently
    • Anticipate upcoming case needs, identify bottlenecks or risks, and escalate substantive or deadline-sensitive issues to the responsible attorney
    • Maintain oversight of statutes of limitation, discovery deadlines, court dates, expert deadlines, lien issues, and settlement requirements
    • Review pleadings, discovery demands and responses, bills of particulars, subpoenas, authorizations, correspondence, and other paralegal work for accuracy and completeness
    • Coordinate medical-record collection, chronologies, damages documentation, expert materials, depositions, independent medical examinations, and trial preparation
    • Communicate professionally with clients, medical providers, experts, opposing counsel, court personnel, and outside vendors
    • Prepare and oversee NYSCEF filings and other required New York court submissions, including filings related to wrongful death and estate matters when applicable
    • Use Clio and firm calendaring systems to maintain reliable file status, task ownership, deadline tracking, and management reporting
    • Provide attorneys with concise case-status updates, recommended next steps, and visibility into team capacity and workflow
    • Support the implementation and enforcement of file-management standards, checklists, and quality-control procedures

     

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Minimum 7 years of substantive paralegal experience in New York personal injury and medical malpractice litigation
    • Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, or coordinating the work of a paralegal or legal support team
    • Proven ability to manage complex, high-value cases independently and move matters forward proactively
    • Advanced working knowledge of New York civil practice, discovery, court rules, statutes of limitation, and litigation deadlines
    • Hands-on experience with NYSCEF, electronic court filing, medical-record management, expert coordination, and trial preparation
    • Proficiency with Clio or a comparable legal practice-management platform and electronic calendaring systems
    • Strong drafting, proofreading, organizational, and verbal communication skills
    • Sound judgment, attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to prioritize a high-volume caseload under competing deadlines

    Preferred

    • Experience with wrongful death matters and New York Surrogate's Court procedures
    • Paralegal certificate or associate's or bachelor's degree
    • Experience establishing team workflows, quality-control procedures, performance standards, or management reporting
