Senior Kong Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide customers through the entire API lifecycle, including remote preparation and conducting in-depth technical workshops for architects, developers, security, and operations teams.
  • Architect and design API gateway solutions and integrations within customer environments, addressing technical challenges and providing hands-on implementation support as needed.
  • Drive professional services engagements focused on outcomes, delivering technical thought leadership throughout the customer adoption journey.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Sales teams to maximise customer value from Kong solutions.
  • Develop and contribute to technical documentation, reference architectures, design patterns, blogs, and knowledge base articles based on real-world implementation experiences.
  • Create tools, white papers, and marketing content to enhance Kong's technical capabilities and support internal teams.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor within the team by promoting best practices and facilitating knowledge sharing.
  • Travel to customer and Kong locations as necessary.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by your manager.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant professional services or solution architecture experience, preferably in the API, middleware, or SaaS domains.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise with API gateways and API integrations in enterprise environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of APIs and microservices architectures.
  • Proficiency in Linux environments, including experience with cloud and development tooling.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and major cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
  • Background in application development is preferred.
  • Prior experience in Open Source, API Management, or Middleware/SaaS software companies is advantageous.
  • Genuine passion for technology and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and change management skills.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple client demands and deliver high-quality outcomes.
