    The Client Data Technology team is responsible for Charles Schwab's core client data platform, enabling differentiated experiences for clients, accounts, households, and advisors across digital, branch, and service channels. As a senior technology leader and engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the next generation of our client data ecosystem by designing, architecting, and delivering scalable, resilient solutions that support evolving business capabilities and drive meaningful outcomes for clients and internal partners.

    In this role, you will combine deep technical expertise with strategic problem-solving to evaluate business needs, identify solution options, and deliver modern cloud-based applications leveraging event-driven architectures, APIs, batch processing frameworks, and messaging technologies. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure solutions meet expectations for scalability, performance, security, compliance, and operational readiness while supporting the firm's long-term technology vision.

    Success in this role requires the ability to lead through influence, foster engineering excellence, and mentor team members while driving accountability and continuous improvement. You will help modernize platforms, support critical production environments, build trusted partnerships across technology domains, and contribute to a culture that values innovation, collaboration, learning, and high-quality delivery.

    What you have

    Required Qualifications

    • 6+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using Java, Spring Framework, cloud technologies, and web services (REST/SOAP) in high-volume, highly available environments.
    • Demonstrated experience using Generative AI coding assistants within the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, code reviews, automation, troubleshooting, and documentation.
    • Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar solutions.
    • 2+ years of experience with modern batch processing solutions such as Spring Batch or Spring Cloud Data Flow.
    • 3+ years of experience working with PostgreSQL, Aerospike, or other cloud-compatible relational database technologies.
    • 3+ years of experience supporting CI/CD practices and cloud-based application deployments.
    • 3+ years of experience utilizing source control and build automation tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Bamboo, or similar platforms.
    • 2+ years of experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), or comparable cloud platforms.
    • 3+ years of experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent technologies.
    • Experience applying Test-Driven Development, quality engineering practices, automated testing, and continuous improvement principles.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex business and technical challenges, evaluate alternatives, and design practical, scalable solutions.
    • 5+ years of experience communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and leading discussions across diverse audiences.
    • 1+ years of Schwab technology domain experience gained as a current or recent contractor or employee.
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and globally distributed teams.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving, risk identification, and decision-making capabilities in complex technology environments.
    • Experience creating delivery roadmaps, managing dependencies, and driving execution against strategic priorities.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in Agile development environments and applying Agile methodologies.
    • Experience leading technology transformation initiatives and modernizing legacy platforms to distributed, cloud-based architectures.
    • 2+ years of experience developing solutions with Python.
    • Experience with Atlassian tools including Jira, Confluence, and related collaboration platforms.
    • Experience within the financial services industry.
    • Ability to engage technical subject matter experts and translate complex concepts into actionable outcomes.
    • Strong learning agility with the ability to quickly acquire knowledge across new technologies and platforms.
    • Experience creating architecture documentation, technical specifications, process flows, and solution designs.
    • Experience documenting and analyzing production, testing, and deployment environments.
    • Prior experience coaching engineers, leading technical teams, and driving engineering best practices.

    In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
