About the role

As the Senior Integration & Applications Developer you will design, build, support, and optimize integrations and internal applications that power our logistics operations. You’ll work cross-functionally with operations, carriers, partners, and other IT teams to ensure reliable, secure, and maintainable data exchange and application services.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, deployment, and maintenance of EDI integrations (X12, EDIFACT, or equivalent) with carriers, brokers, suppliers, and customers.
  • Develop and optimize database schemas, stored procedures, views and ETL processes in Microsoft SQL Server to support operational and reporting needs.
  • Build, configure, and maintain Altova tools (MapForce, XMLSpy, StyleVision, or others) for XML/JSON/data mapping, transformation, and validation.
  • Create and maintain web-based applications and APIs using modern web technologies (e.g., .NET/.NET Core, ASP.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, RESTful services).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production integration and application issues, including debugging EDI transactions, mapping errors, and database performance problems.
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting for integrations and services; ensure high availability and performance.
  • Work with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications and robust solutions.
  • Share best practices, and contribute to architecture and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with security, data privacy, and industry standards (e.g., secure transport, encryption, access controls).

Required qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years professional experience in the logistics, transportation, or warehousing industry with hands-on technical roles.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, performance tuning, indexing, backup/restore, SSIS or equivalent ETL).
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting EDI integrations (X12, EDIFACT, or industry-specific formats) across multiple partners.
  • Practical experience with Altova products (MapForce, XMLSpy, etc.) for data mapping and transformation.
  • Solid web application and API development skills (server-side frameworks such as .NET/.NET Core, and front-end JavaScript/TypeScript experience).
  • Familiarity with integration patterns, messaging (MQ, AS2, SFTP), and common transport methods for EDI/data exchange.
  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills; ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Located near Itasca, IL or willing to commute to the Itasca area (on-site).

Preferred / nice-to-have

  • Familiarity with XML, JSON schema design and validation.
  • Hands-on experience with Altova Server or other automated mapping deployment tools.
  • Background in TMS/WMS systems, EDI VANs, and specifically Cargowise
