    Senior Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer

    Location: Englewood, CO
    Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

    We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer to join our client's team in Englewood, Colorado on a contract-to-hire basis. In this role, you will provide advanced technical leadership and engineering expertise within the I&C discipline, supporting medium and large-scale energy and industrial projects. You will be responsible for driving engineering excellence, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and mentoring junior team members while working closely with project management and cross-functional engineering teams.

    Position Overview

    As a Senior I&C Engineer, you will lead technical execution across instrumentation and controls project scopes, ensuring high-quality deliverables, efficient project performance, and adherence to safety, budget, and schedule requirements. You will play a key role in both design and field implementation efforts, contributing to system optimization, innovation, and client satisfaction.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and provide technical direction to engineers and designers executing I&C scope on medium and large projects.
    • Estimate engineering manhours, prioritize tasks, assign work, and communicate progress to project management.
    • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and quality of all engineering deliverables in alignment with company and industry standards.
    • Coordinate closely with project managers and discipline leads to maintain alignment with client standards and procedures.
    • Perform complex engineering and design tasks using current tools, technologies, and industry standards.
    • Prepare and review key deliverables including:
      • Control narratives
      • Cause & effect diagrams
      • Equipment lists and layouts
      • Instrument sizing calculations
      • Schematics and specifications
      • Data sheets and requisitions
      • Technical bid evaluations
    • Review and coordinate all design aspects related to instrumentation and controls scope.
    • Work independently on specialized assignments or collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
    • Implement company and client engineering standards while identifying process improvement opportunities.
    • Maintain high-quality design output through adherence to QA/QC procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, contract requirements, schedules, budgets, and safety standards.
    • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and professional development support to junior engineers and designers.

    Qualifications & Skillset

    Technical & Industry Experience

    • 8 12 years of relevant experience in Instrumentation & Controls engineering.
    • Strong knowledge of protective devices and coordination techniques.
    • Familiarity with industry standards including ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NEC, and related codes.
    • Ability to perform instrumentation and control system engineering calculations.
    • Experience with energy or industrial instrumentation systems including:
      • PLCs and control systems
      • Control valves and safety valves
      • Pressure and temperature instrumentation
      • Analyzers and field devices
      • Network architecture and integration systems
    • Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to interpret and deliver on client requirements.
    • Proven leadership experience guiding engineering and design teams.
    • Experience supporting Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates.
    • Strong understanding of project scope, schedule, and budget management.
    • Knowledge of instrumentation installation practices, construction methods, and plant commissioning/start-up activities.

    Education & Certification Requirements

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

    Preferred:

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Colorado (required).
    • California PE license is a plus.
