EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent
- Two (2) years of HIM experience or equivalent experience.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Health Information Management (HIM) Technician provides advanced technical skills in the day-to-day operations of HIM. This position involves independent judgment and decision-making to receive, maintain and evaluate health records per current policies, standards, regulations, and local/state/federal laws. In addition, under the direction of the Team Lead and/or Manager, performs more complex health records analyses and provides technical guidance and training.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Analyzes complex data for completeness and accuracy to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements, such as CMS, The Joint Commission, and the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations
- Serves as advisor to HIM Technicians for analysis of more complex health records and advises on correct process and procedures
- Processes requests for the release of confidential information according to regulatory guidelines, such as HIPAA Privacy and Security Rule, Texas Health and Safety Code
- Assists Medical Staff in the completion of records to avoid suspension of medical staff privileges
- Scans/Indexes all paper and faxed documents deemed part of the legal medical record into the electronic health records system to the appropriate patient account with accuracy, timeliness, and uniformity
- Maintains the integrity of the Master Patient Index
- Assists in planning and conducting orientation and in-service training programs for staff
- Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the maintenance of health records
- Maintains health records per current federal, state, and local laws, guidelines, and regulations that govern medical records
- Interprets and communicates policies, procedures, standards, and regulations
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, management, hospital staff, and patients
- Performs lead work activities.
- It may be required to perform the functions of the lower-level classes in this series.

- Performs related duties as required.

SALARY RANGE:
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Hybrid position, Casual Appointment, up to 19.99 hours/week.
