Data Modeling & Batch Workloads: Model, query, and optimize relational data using Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, and PostgreSQL, and engineer complex background data jobs with Spring Batch.

Randstad is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our high-impact client team in the Washington, D.C. metro area, supporting mission-critical enterprise operations applications. In this role, you will be the core technical driver behind high-throughput backend services and modern web interfaces, with work weighted approximately 75 80% toward backend distributed architecture (Java 17/21, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL) and 20 25% toward responsive frontend features in Angular. You will design fault-tolerant microservices, implement event-driven architectures, streamline CI/CD pipelines on AWS, and deliver intuitive tools that optimize operational workflows across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend & API Development: Design, build, and maintain high-performance Spring Boot microservices (Java 17/21) exposing robust REST and reactive endpoints.
• Event-Driven Architecture: Architect messaging pipelines using Spring Kafka, handling message ordering, retries, dead-letter topics (DLTs), idempotency, and schema evolution over time.
• Data Modeling & Batch Workloads: Model, query, and optimize relational data using Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, and PostgreSQL, and engineer complex background data jobs with Spring Batch.
• System Resilience & Security: Implement circuit breakers, rate limiting, and fallback patterns using Resilience4j; enforce enterprise security standards with Spring Security, OAuth2, JWT, and AWS Secrets Manager.
• Frontend Delivery: Build and maintain performant, accessible UI features using Angular (v15+), TypeScript, and RxJS (accounting for ~20 25% of development time).
• Testing & Quality Assurance: Write unit and integration suites using JUnit 5 and Spring Boot Test, while collaborating on automated end-to-end testing with Playwright.
• DevOps & Cloud Ownership: Containerize microservices using Docker, configure automated CI/CD workflows via GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild, and manage cloud workloads in AWS.
• Technical Leadership: Conduct rigorous architecture and code reviews, establish engineering standards, mentor junior developers, and assist in production incident resolution.

Required Qualifications

• Professional Experience: 5+ years of production experience in backend software engineering with a demonstrable secondary focus in modern frontend development.
• Core Backend Stack: Deep proficiency with Java (17 or 21), the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data), and relational databases (PostgreSQL).
• Messaging & Streaming: Hands-on experience developing event-driven systems using Apache Kafka or AWS MSK, including practical handling of DLTs, idempotency, and consumer group rebalancing.
• Frontend Competence: Practical experience building single-page applications with Angular (v15+), TypeScript, RxJS, and modern CSS/UI libraries (Tailwind CSS, PrimeNG, or Angular Material).
• Resilience & Testing: Proven background implementing fault-tolerance patterns (Resilience4j) and writing comprehensive automated tests (JUnit 5, Spring Boot Test).
• Cloud & Containers: Experience deploying containerized workloads (Docker) within AWS environments using standard CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, CodeBuild).
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience implementing state management solutions in Angular using NgRx.
• Working knowledge of Spring WebFlux, reactive programming paradigms, and schema governance (Avro, JSON Schema, Confluent Schema Registry).
• Experience writing end-to-end browser automation suites with Playwright.
• Industry domain experience in transportation, rail, fleet operations, or logistics systems.
