SENIOR FOREMAN JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Foreman is responsible for leadership and oversight of the field crews, safety, communication, and jobsite management to drive delivery of high-quality results. The Senior Foreman will work with crews and other foremen and manage all aspects of team member work product. This includes but not limited to equipment mobilization, equipment operation, securing/controlling site materials, following all permits, managing onsite resources, meeting or exceeding production goals and project outcomes. The Senior Foreman will establish a cadence of consistent communication with the project manager and will lead by example by working alongside the crews as the project requires to drive high quality results. There will be times when the Senior Foreman spends more time planning, organizing, directing, and ensuring crews are working to the company standards for quality and productivity.

Safety
  • Holds leadership level responsibility to ensure the team works safely and in compliance with:
    • OSHA regulations
    • HazMat regulations
    • Federal, State, County, and/or local regulations and codes
    • Customer training and safety requirements
    • DOT regulations and Company vehicle operation standards '
    • Traffic control on the jobsite
    • Competent Person knowledge and standards
  • Ensures all crews complete the JSAs at the start of each jobsite, noting discussion items, confirming it is reviewed and signed by each person entering the jobsite, and recorded daily
  • Ensures adherence to all Company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates a high level of situational awareness, proactively identifying and mitigating potential issues and coaching team members to have the same skills
  • Ensures proper care, readiness and use of tools, equipment, trailers, and vehicles
  • Responsible to ensure the team completes timely, accurate reporting and documentation of:
    • Damaged equipment
    • Property damage
    • Accidents
    • Injuries or illness
    • Utility hits and close calls
  • Ensures that the appearance of personnel, tools, equipment, trailers, vehicles, the shop meets or exceeds company standards

Jobsite Management
  • Identifies the skills team members need to complete the on-site project activities and organizes these resources to maximize cost effectiveness and ensure timely and profitable completion of projects in accordance with project standards
  • Proactively collaborates with the Project Manager and/or Project Coordination to schedule sub-contractors
  • Manages subcontractors, holding them accountable to the company's standards for safety, productivity, and quality
  • Responsible for all onsite setup prior to crew arrival including organization of job trailers, laydown yards, laying out running lines, and other applicable activities
  • Organizes onsite materials and resources provided to ensure they are available to complete the project in a timely manner; schedules material deliveries with the Project Manager or Project Coordination as necessary
  • Identifies equipment needed to complete work and works with Project Managers and the Shop Manager to ensure equipment is scheduled accordingly
  • Solves problems efficiently and effectively, proactively provides solutions
  • Serves as the primary point of contact on the jobsite for the team and consistently communicating project updates, successes and risks to project managers and leadership; coordinates workflow onsite and updates Project Managers and Project Coordinators
  • Notifies Project Manager of any potential change orders to ensure they will be addressed in a timely manner
  • Identifies, communicates, and proactively troubleshoots problems on the jobsite, coaches team to develop problem resolution skills
  • Maintains project documentation in a timely manner including daily production reports
  • Records materials utilization and provides timely reporting to project coordination
  • Consistently audits quality of work product
  • Practices preventive maintenance of tools, equipment, trailers and vehicles by performing daily inspections
  • Confidently facilitates a higher level of jobsite responsibilities
  • May flex into the superintendent role as required
  • Accepts a higher level of decision-making responsibility and has proven the ability to achieve desired results by making good decisions
  • Able to understand the financial aspects of the project at a higher level and confidentially to drive success

People Management
  • Consistently and clearly communicates the plan and expectations to Foreman and crew members verbally and in writing, providing daily goals and objectives
  • Facilitates regular check-ins with Foreman and crews to proactively facilitate project progress updates and provide coaching
  • Proactively recruits new team members
  • Coaches team members to foster career advancement, retention and growth of current team
  • Reviews and approves crew timesheets to ensure accurate reporting of labor hours and equipment utilization
  • Manages and facilitates employee relations and addresses problems in the field, coaches Foreman through employees relations challenges
  • Communicates with the leadership team when issues that arise that may affect individual or company culture or are in violation of Company policies and works with Human Resources to document and coach team
  • Establishes a cadence of communication and coordination with the key customer contacts to ensure total customer satisfaction
  • Recommends new subcontractor relationships and provides feedback on the quality and effectiveness of existing subcontractor relationships
  • Trains and mentors Foremen
  • Effectively manages multiple crews at multiple sites, ensuring alignment of goals and objectives for the team
  • Demonstrates continuous growth and investment in developing people skills through leadership training and certification programs

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of infrastructure construction processes and procedures resulting from five or more years of experience
  • Confidentially demonstrates all the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work assigned with solid well organized processes and procedures
  • Proficient in reading and understanding blueprints, construction drawings, project manuals, project specifications, and work instructions; recognizes potential construction issues prior to starting work and proactively works with the internal and external teams to find solutions
  • Proficiently operates the required tools, equipment, vehicles and trailers necessary to work on projects; and assists team members in becoming proficient at operating the listed items
  • Proficiently able to efficiently maintain required tools, equipment, vehicles and trailers required on projects and responsible for assisting team members in becoming proficient at operating the listed items
  • Demonstrates experience to effectively to lead and manage people
