Senior Fire Engineer
As a Senior Fire Engineer, you will lead the delivery of complex and high-risk fire engineering projects across Bellrock's client portfolio. You will provide technically robust, performance-based fire engineering solutions that support safe, compliant, and commercially practical design outcomes.
Operating as a senior technical authority within the Fire Consultancy (Engineering) team, you will take ownership of significant projects, provide engineering leadership, and act as a mentor to Fire Engineers and Consultants. Your work will directly support compliance with UK legislation including the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated secondary regulations.
You will combine deep technical expertise with strong client engagement skills, ensuring that engineering solutions are defensible, proportionate, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
As part of the role, you may be asked to contribute to Safety Case Reviews and HAZID (Hazard Identification) activities where required
How will you be the change?
- Leading the delivery of Fire Engineering projects across RIBA Stages 1-6, including the preparation of Fire Strategy Reports and performance-based design solutions.
- Undertaking complex engineering analysis including means of escape calculations, smoke control strategy development, structural fire engineering input, and façade fire risk appraisal (including PAS 9980 where competent).
- Developing and reviewing fire modelling simulations using CFD or zone modelling software, interpreting fire dynamics, smoke behaviour and heat transfer to support engineered justifications.
- Providing risk-based interpretation of UK fire legislation and standards including Approved Document B, BS 9999, BS 9991, BS 7974 and related guidance.
- Supporting projects involving Higher-Risk Buildings under the Building Safety Act regime, including technical input to Gateway submissions and regulatory engagement where required.
- Acting as a senior technical point of contact for clients, design teams and internal stakeholders.
- Undertaking peer review and technical Quality Control of engineering outputs to ensure consistency, compliance and professional robustness.
- Mentoring and developing Fire Engineers and Consultants, contributing to CPD activities and supporting colleagues working towards professional registration.
- Supporting proposal development, fee submissions and technical inputs to business development opportunities.
- Managing your own workload, programme delivery and commercial performance of assigned projects.
What does it take?
- Extensive experience in fire engineering within the built environment, including demonstrable delivery of complex fire strategy projects.
- Advanced knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, statutory guidance and engineering standards.
- Strong understanding of fire dynamics, smoke movement, human behaviour in fire, and active and passive fire protection systems.
- Experience of computational fire modelling (e.g., CFD and/or zone models) and the interpretation of modelling outputs.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary design environments across RIBA stages.
- Degree in Fire Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred, or working towards Chartership through a recognised professional body such as the Institute of Fire Engineers.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing project scope, fees and client expectations.
- Technically authoritative with strong professional judgement.
- Confident in articulating and defending engineering solutions to clients and regulators.
- Professional, proactive and accountable in approach.
- Strong report writing skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to lead by example and positively influence others.
