Job Summary

The Senior Field Service Technician is responsible for performing advanced field service activities at customer sites in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. This role includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, diesel, and industrial equipment while providing technical support and exceptional customer service. The technician will work independently in the field, manage service priorities, diagnose complex equipment issues, and identify effective solutions to minimize downtime.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with company and customer safety standards.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, diesel, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and identify effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and manage parts inventory, tools, and company equipment.
  • Provide professional onsite customer support and communicate technical information clearly.
  • Work independently in the field while managing priorities, schedules, and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, customers, and other service personnel.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, reports, and required records.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Xylem professionally while delivering a high level of customer service.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2–5 years of field service, mechanical, electrical, diesel, or industrial equipment experience preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing complex equipment in a customer-facing environment preferred.
  • Experience working with diesel-powered equipment, pumps, motors, controls, or industrial systems preferred.
  • Ability to obtain required customer clearances, including TWIC, DISA, or other site-specific requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card.
  • Clean driving record required.

Skills

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and implement effective repairs with limited supervision.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand and interpret technical documentation.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications and mobile technology.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to customers and internal teams.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and resolve complex field issues.
  • Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and professionalism when representing the company onsite.

Travel and Driving Requirements

  • Travel to customer sites is required, with overnight travel as needed based on business and customer requirements.
  • This position requires operating a company vehicle. Candidates must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a clean driving record that meets company standards.
  • Candidates must successfully complete all required driver, DOT, medical, and background screening requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain company driving privileges.

Compensation & Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $30 to $34 an hour. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location.
