    POSITION OVERVIEW

    UNICON International is seeking a highly experienced Senior Fiber Technician to support a large-scale, mission-critical data center connectivity project. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned fiber professional with extensive hands-on experience in fiber-optic infrastructure, splicing, advanced testing, circuit auditing, connectivity verification, and complex troubleshooting.

    The Senior Fiber Technician will independently perform and troubleshoot complex fiber activities, validate completed work, assist with escalated connectivity issues, and provide technical guidance to less-experienced technicians while ensuring project safety, quality, and documentation standards are consistently maintained.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

    • Independently install, pull, route, dress, organize, and label fiber-optic and copper cabling
    • Perform precision fiber termination and splicing activities
    • Perform advanced fiber testing and end-to-end connectivity verification
    • Conduct circuit auditing and validation against port maps and project documentation
    • Clean and inspect fiber connectors and end faces
    • Utilize OTDR, optical power meters/light sources, VFLs, fiber scopes, EXFO, Viavi, Fluke, and comparable testing equipment
    • Interpret OTDR traces, light-level readings, and other fiber testing results
    • Diagnose complex physical-layer and fiber connectivity failures
    • Identify high loss, breaks, reflections, contamination, polarity issues, damaged connectors, incorrect routing, and other fiber faults
    • Trace fiber and independently troubleshoot end-to-end circuit connectivity
    • Correct identified fiber/connectivity issues and perform required retesting
    • Work with single-mode and multi-mode fiber and applicable connector types
    • Support rack, patch-panel, pathway, structured cabling, and cable-management activities
    • Read and interpret blueprints, fiber plans, splice maps, cable schedules, port maps, and work instructions
    • Validate completed installations and testing against project quality requirements
    • Maintain accurate testing results, corrective-action records, and project documentation
    • Assist with escalated technical and connectivity issues
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Associate and Fiber Technicians
    • Help maintain project safety, quality, productivity, and schedule expectations
    • Follow and reinforce all safety, PPE, ESD, quality, and site requirements

    WHAT'S NEEDED

    • 10+ years of relevant experience
    • 10 years working directly in a Data Center environment
    • Extensive hands-on experience with fiber optics, telecommunications, structured cabling, or mission-critical infrastructure
    • Strong fiber installation, termination, and splicing experience
    • Advanced fiber testing and troubleshooting capabilities
    • Extensive experience using OTDR, optical power meters/light sources, VFLs, fiber scopes, or comparable testing equipment
    • Experience performing circuit audits and end-to-end connectivity verification
    • Ability to independently interpret testing results and diagnose complex fiber failures
    • Strong knowledge of single-mode and multi-mode fiber
    • Structured cabling and ISP/OSP experience
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fiber plans, splice maps, cable schedules, port maps, and technical documentation
    • Strong attention to safety, quality, workmanship, and documentation
    • Data center, telecommunications carrier, large-scale construction, or mission-critical infrastructure experience preferred
    • Previous technical leadership, journeyman, foreman, lead, or mentoring experience is a plus
    • Steel-toed safety boots are required on the first day of employment and must be worn in accordance with site safety requirements.
