DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more. This leader will also provide technical guidance and oversight on all public works projects and programs, including regional transportation planning, engineering design, street maintenance, gravel roads, stormwater management, public right-of-way, traffic engineering and maintenance, construction inspection, and special projects.

About the Position

A demonstrated commitment to staff development and involvement, with intentional focus on developing future leadership for the department and County, is paramount. The Senior Executive will possess exceptional aptitude to anticipate and solve problems, identify alternative courses of action, and prepare and deliver proactive recommendations.   

The Senior Executive is responsible for the overall leadership and oversight of the department, providing counsel, motivation, and constructive performance feedback to all assigned staff in support of the mission and strategic goals of DPW&T. This leader will also provide technical guidance and oversight on all public works projects and programs, including regional transportation planning, engineering design, street maintenance, gravel roads, stormwater management, public right-of-way, traffic engineering and maintenance, construction inspection, and special projects. 

About The Agency

The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area -- all of which are maintained by staff of the Department.
