Senior Data Engineer
Columbia, MD
Contract
Visa : USC, EAD, GC on W2
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for orchestrating, deploying, maintaining, and scaling cloud and/or on-premise infrastructure supporting big data and enterprise data platforms (Relational and NoSQL, distributed and converged systems).
This role focuses on:

20% – Infrastructure Development
- Develop and maintain data infrastructure systems (data warehouses, data lakes).
- Build and maintain data access APIs.
- Prepare and manipulate data using multiple technologies.
- Interpret and analyze data using statistical techniques.
- Deliver ongoing reports and actionable insights.
- Support data-driven decision-making for key projects.
- Design and execute quality control procedures across multiple systems.
- Develop logical and physical data models.
- Evaluate and enhance data warehouse architecture.
- Apply metadata standards and modeling conventions.
- Plan data classes, indexing, replication, backup, retention, and recovery strategies.
- Create frameworks for structured and unstructured data collection.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices.
- Participate in professional workshops and industry networking.
- Apply data extraction, transformation, and loading techniques.
- Integrate large datasets from multiple sources.
- Implement best practices in:
- Data auditing
- Scalability
- Reliability
- Application performance
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Engineering
- Related field
Additional 4 years of relevant experience (on top of required experience).
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in:
- Database design
- Data modeling tools
- ETL/ELT development
- Application development
- Relational database development
- Data architecture
Expert Level
- SQL / NoSQL / Python (at least one programming language)
- Database design & implementation
- Data exchange formats
- Data movement concepts
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
- Organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Must disclose any debarment or exclusion impacting Federal healthcare program eligibility.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Capable of handling shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Strong customer service skills (internal & external stakeholders).
- Ability to manage demanding or complex situations professionally.
