Senior Enterprise Data Architect
Azure Databricks | Azure | Data Governance | Power BI
FocusPoint is recruiting a Senior Enterprise Data Architect for an opportunity with an established organization modernizing its enterprise data and analytics environment.
This is a highly visible architecture role for someone who can take ownership of complex data challenges from initial business requirements through architecture, security, governance, implementation, and consumption. The right person will combine extensive Azure and Databricks architecture experience with the ability to work directly with business and technology stakeholders and turn ambiguous requirements into practical, scalable solutions.
This is not primarily a data engineering or development position. We are looking for an experienced architect who can independently lead technical discussions, make sound architecture decisions, establish reusable standards, and remain engaged through implementation.
What You'll Do
- Own end to end data architecture spanning source systems, ingestion, Azure Databricks, Lakehouse architecture, governance, security, semantic layers, Power BI, analytics, and AI workloads.
- Design scalable and reusable enterprise architecture patterns rather than one off solutions.
- Architect modern data platforms using Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks SQL, and Medallion architecture.
- Define ingestion strategies across APIs, relational databases, files, SaaS platforms, CDC, streaming, and other enterprise data sources.
- Design solutions using Azure Data Factory and ADLS Gen2.
- Establish security and governance patterns involving RBAC, least privilege, sensitive data, PII, data classification, lineage, masking, and access controls.
- Incorporate Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, managed identities, and service principals into secure data architecture.
- Architect governed data consumption patterns supporting Power BI semantic models, enterprise datasets, RLS, connectivity, and performance.
- Partner directly with business leaders, cybersecurity, application teams, data engineering, analytics, and other technology stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into practical technical architecture and implementation guidance.
- Lead architecture and solution design reviews and identify security, scalability, integration, maintainability, performance, and cost considerations.
- Establish architecture standards, reusable patterns, design guardrails, and technical direction for delivery teams.
- Stay engaged throughout implementation to ensure delivered solutions remain aligned with the intended architecture.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of overall data and technology experience.
- 4+ years in data architecture, solution architecture, or senior data engineering architecture roles.
- Recent, hands on experience architecting solutions with Azure Databricks.
- Extensive experience designing enterprise data platforms within Microsoft Azure.
- Practical experience with Unity Catalog and Medallion architecture.
- Extensive knowledge of Azure Data Factory and ADLS Gen2.
- Understanding of Power BI architecture, semantic models, connectivity, and security.
- Experience designing enterprise data governance and sensitive data security models.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, Key Vault, managed identities, and service principals.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD, and environment promotion controls.
- Experience with metadata, lineage, data quality, stewardship, and auditability.
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders, cybersecurity/IAM teams, application owners, and engineering teams.
- Experience designing data foundations supporting analytics, data science, AI, and machine learning workloads.
What Will Set You Apart
- Databricks or Microsoft Azure certifications.
- Enterprise application and ERP data integration experience.
- Experience architecting solutions involving sensitive employee, HR, payroll, or other PII data.
- Experience with complex operational or industrial data environments.
- Experience supporting both structured and unstructured data.
- Exposure to MLflow, Model Serving, Vector Search, Genie, or AI gateway patterns.
- Understanding of Terraform or Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with domain data products, semantic layers, or federated data governance.
The Person We're Looking For
Technical expertise alone will not be enough for this position.
You should be comfortable receiving an ambiguous business problem, identifying the right stakeholders, asking the right questions, evaluating options, and driving the solution forward without requiring detailed day to day direction.
You should also be able to explain complex Azure, Databricks, security, and data concepts clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences. Success requires someone who combines architecture judgment, initiative, communication skills, and technical credibility with the ability to work effectively across an organization.
