The Senior Propulsion Analytics Engineer is responsible for supporting the safety, reliability, operational performance, and lifecycle management of Delta''s propulsion systems through the application of engineering analysis and data-driven decision making. Leveraging expertise in commercial aircraft engines, engine maintenance programs, reliability engineering, and engine condition monitoring, this role develops and applies analytical tools and methodologies to identify emerging reliability risks, improve maintenance strategies, and enhance fleet performance.
The position combines propulsion engineering expertise with advanced analytics to evaluate engine health, investigate reliability events, identify failure trends, and support predictive maintenance initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders to improve engine reliability and operational performance across Delta''s fleets.
Key Responsibilities
Propulsion Engineering & Reliability
- Analyze engine and component reliability performance across assigned fleets.
- Evaluate engine removals, maintenance findings, pilot reports, delays, cancellations, and operational disruptions to identify reliability trends and emerging risks.
- Perform engineering investigations and root-cause analyses of engine and component failures using operational, maintenance, and shop visit data.
- Develop technical recommendations and corrective actions to improve reliability, reduce operational disruptions, and optimize maintenance effectiveness.
- Support maintenance program development and reliability initiatives through engineering analysis and technical assessments.
- Research and evaluate opportunities for engine modifications, maintenance program enhancements, and other initiatives that improve fleet reliability.
- Partner with OEMs and repair vendors to evaluate technical issues and corrective action plans.
Engine Condition Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance
- Perform engine condition monitoring and provide engineering recommendations based on engine performance and health data.
- Analyze engine performance parameters and degradation trends to identify developing maintenance concerns.
- Develop predictive models and analytical techniques used to forecast component degradation and potential failures.
- Apply statistical methods and data-mining techniques to identify long-term reliability trends and failure patterns.
- Create automated monitoring and anomaly detection tools that support proactive maintenance decision making.
- Support on-wing reliability initiatives through development of reports, predictive analyses, and engineering assessments.
Engineering Analytics
- Develop and maintain analytical tools, reports, dashboards, and automated solutions supporting Propulsion Engineering.
- Define and maintain business rules used to evaluate engine reliability and performance metrics.
- Analyze large operational, maintenance, and engineering datasets to identify actionable insights.
- Support data integration and analytic solution development for propulsion engineering applications.
- Develop recurring reliability and performance reporting for fleet monitoring and engineering decision making.
- Evaluate the operational and economic impacts of engine reliability issues and maintenance actions.
Maintenance Planning & Fleet Support
- Support engine removal forecasting, shop visit planning, and maintenance demand forecasting activities.
- Perform cost and performance analyses supporting maintenance and operational decisions.
- Assist with development of technical recommendations supporting maintenance strategies and lifecycle planning.
- Provide analytical support for engine fleet management activities and long-term planning initiatives.
Safety
- Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
- Consistently prioritizes safety, reliability, and operational excellence in all engineering activities.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
- Bachelor''s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in propulsion engineering, engine reliability engineering, fleet engineering, airline engineering, OEM engineering, or engine MRO operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of commercial aircraft engines, engine systems, maintenance programs, shop processes, and reliability methodologies.
- Experience interpreting engine operational data, maintenance records, repair findings, and engine condition monitoring data to support engineering decisions.
- Experience conducting engineering investigations and root-cause analyses of engine and component reliability issues.
- Experience applying analytical tools and statistical methods to solve engineering problems.
- Working knowledge of SQL, Python, Power BI, Palantir Foundry, or similar analytical tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
- Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
- Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
- Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
- Airline propulsion engineering experience.
- Experience with engine condition monitoring (ECM), engine health monitoring (EHM), or predictive maintenance programs.
- Experience with commercial turbine engine performance analysis and fleet reliability programs.
- Experience working directly with OEMs and engine repair organizations.
- Experience developing predictive analytics and anomaly detection methods in an engineering environment.
- Knowledge of FAA regulations and airline maintenance programs.
