Senior Engineer - Systems (Software Asset Management)

Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. - Administer and maintain SAM-related data in tools such as ServiceNow SAM Pro, CMDB repositories, discovery platforms, inventory tools, procurement systems, vendor portals, and reporting workbooks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Responsible for the computer systems analysis, requirements analysis, modeling, configuration, monitoring and support for mission-critical applications.

- Lead the monitoring and testing of application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes.

- Work closely with business and systems analysts to define system requirements to meet both internal and external customer needs.

- Provide status updates to manager, and project manager on project progress, challenges, issues, and end-user satisfaction.

Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maintain accurate software asset records, including entitlements, license counts, deployments, allocations, assignments, renewals, support terms, ownership, and contractual metadata.

- Reconcile software purchases, entitlements, installations, usage, and consumption data to identify gaps, overages, unused licenses, underutilized licenses, and potential compliance risks.

- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual software license audits by gathering data, validating license positions, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions.

- Analyze software usage trends to identify opportunities for license reclamation, reassignment, consolidation, cost avoidance, and contract optimization.

- Review software requests to determine whether an existing license is available, whether the request aligns with approved software standards, and whether procurement or governance review is required.

- Partner with Procurement and Finance to support software purchases, renewals, true-ups, invoice validation, budget forecasting, and total cost of ownership analysis.

- Work with Legal, Security, and vendor management stakeholders to review licensing terms, contract requirements, data protection considerations, audit clauses, and compliance obligations.

- Collaborate with application owners and technical owners to validate business need, usage requirements, ownership, support contacts, access controls, and lifecycle status for managed software titles.

- Administer and maintain SAM-related data in tools such as ServiceNow SAM Pro, CMDB repositories, discovery platforms, inventory tools, procurement systems, vendor portals, and reporting workbooks.

- Troubleshoot data-quality issues between SAM platforms, CMDB records, procurement data, software discovery feeds, and vendor entitlement sources.

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- 5-7 years of relevant professional experience required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree.

Job-Specific Minimum Requirements:

- 5 years related experience required.

- Must have experience with SAM platforms such as ServiceNow SAM Pro.

- Strong Software Licensing Knowledge is required

- Asset & License Management experience is required

- Data Analysis - strong excel skills including Pivot tables, XLookup/VLookup is key.

- Must have familiarity with CMDBs and IT-Asset management systems.

- Financial Awareness of software spend and total cost of ownership.

- Analytical and problem-solving skills (strong attention to detail).

- Strong communication and writing skills.

- Strong organizational skills.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

- Vendor and procurement skills is a nice to have
