The Senior Engineer supports materials lab operations and process engineering activities within Delta TechOps. This role is responsible for technical policy and procedure development and revision, lab systems and data management, compliance and audit-readiness support, testing and process issue investigation, equipment support, lab-related repair development activities, and cross-functional support for lab and maintenance operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, revise, and maintain technical procedures, work instructions, and related controlled documentation, providing technical leadership to ensure accuracy, standardization, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
- Lead and support lab-related repair development activities, including testing, process evaluation, documentation, and implementation, while exercising technical judgment to drive successful adoption and sustainment.
- Lead compliance and audit-readiness initiatives through procedure updates, documentation improvements, training support, proficiency testing, and gap closure. Investigate testing issues, process problems, and data discrepancies, and drive technically sound resolution and corrective actions.
- Manage and continuously improve lab systems, databases, and technical workflows, establishing priorities and implementing enhancements that improve data integrity, usability, and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical oversight of equipment-related activities, including maintenance, calibration, preventive maintenance, equipment qualification, and associated documentation to ensure reliability and compliance.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, maintenance, and laboratory personnel to resolve complex technical issues, align stakeholders, and support operational needs and process compliance.
- Lead the development, revision, standardization, and implementation of lab methods and process requirements, ensuring technical rigor, consistency, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Develop and deliver, or provide technical leadership for, training materials, SOJTs, and procedural rollouts to ensure effective knowledge transfer and consistent execution of lab and process activities.
- Analyze technical and laboratory data to identify trends, assess risk, drive process improvements, and enhance capability, consistency, and operational performance.
- Establish and maintain effective systems for technical records, documentation control, and knowledge management to support compliance, traceability, and organizational learning.
- Evaluate, justify, and procure new or replacement laboratory equipment as operational needs and funding permit, providing technical recommendations to support current and future capability requirements.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in materials science engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related technical field
- 3-5 years of experience in engineering, laboratory operations, process engineering, manufacturing support, or technical operations
- Experience working with technical procedures, specifications, standards, or controlled documentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support work across several technical areas
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, quality teams, and operations partners
- Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
- Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
- Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
- Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
- Experience supporting materials labs, chemical processing, coatings, plating, mechanical testing, or related special processes
- Experience in a Part 145 repair station environment
- Familiarity with FAA regulations
- Experience supporting audit readiness, accreditation, or compliance-driven technical work
- Experience with lab systems or workflow tools such as IndySoft or similar platforms
- Experience developing or revising technical policy and procedures, work instructions, or training documentation
- Experience supporting equipment management, calibration coordination, or technical training
