How You'll Create Impact

  • Lead development efforts for key components or subsystems of Advanced Technologies programs, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with project objectives.
  • Define and refine system and subsystem requirements with emphasis on technical feasibility, data quality and availability, interfaces, and measurable performance criteria.
  • Independently develop and mature software, algorithms, computational models, and prototype systems from feasibility through increasingly product-relevant implementations.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Affairs, Product Development, Quality, Regulatory, Hardware, and other cross-functional teams in the design, testing, integration, and deployment of innovative technologies.
  • Develop and document test strategies and protocols, analyze results, identify root causes, and recommend design improvements.
  • Apply requirements-based development and appropriate design controls as technologies progress toward commercial medical products.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers through technical reviews, knowledge sharing, and day-to-day engineering guidance.
  • Support ongoing research and development initiatives by evaluating emerging technologies, identifying technical risks, and designing experiments to reduce uncertainty.
  • Manage multiple technical priorities with limited supervision and communicate risks, dependencies, and progress to project stakeholders.
  • Participate in surgical observations and clinical collaborations to translate workflow needs and clinical problems into meaningful technical solutions.

Your Background

Education

  • Bachelor''s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) focused on Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Data Science, Robotics, Biomechanics, or related field preferred but not required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of technical projects or subsystems; an advanced degree may offset a portion of industry experience where appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently while contributing to a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

Core Capability Areas

Software & Algorithm Development

  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar languages.
  • Experience independently developing and debugging algorithms for data processing, computational modeling, navigation, sensing, or systems control.

Machine Learning & Computer Vision

  • Experience applying ML/CV techniques to real-world problems.
  • Ability to select appropriate approaches, establish evaluation methods, and understand limitations and failure modes.

Data & Statistical Analysis

  • Experience with statistical modeling, data analysis, and performance evaluation.
  • Ability to work effectively with noisy, incomplete, experimental, or clinical datasets and draw defensible conclusions.

Systems & Product Integration

  • Experience developing within larger systems such as surgical navigation, sensors, wearables, robotics, imaging, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of software/hardware interfaces, system-level tradeoffs, and clinical workflow integration.

Medical Device Product Development

  • Experience with requirements-based product development and technical documentation.
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, 3-Matic, Fusion 360, or similar) is beneficial.
  • Exposure to regulated medical-device development and design controls is preferred.

Additional Strengths

  • Experience in medical devices, imaging, or regulated environments.
  • Exposure to signal processing, biomechanics, sensor data, registration, or patient-specific modeling.
  • Ability to lead portions of complex projects independently while contributing to broader program success.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching less experienced engineers.
  • Strong technical communication and ability to influence decisions within a multidisciplinary team.

Travel Expectations

Up to 10% overnight travel may be required.

Compensation Data

Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000 depending on skills and experience
