Senior Electronics Engineer III – Embedded Systems
Saint Paul, MN | Direct Hire | $110,000-$125,000 (Flexible) + Bonus
Konik is partnering with an innovative engineering and manufacturing company seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to support the design, development, and integration of advanced microprocessor-based systems. This role focuses on embedded firmware development, hardware integration, real-time operating systems, and system-level optimization for complex electronic platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize embedded firmware solutions for microprocessor-based platforms.
- Develop robust C/C++ firmware supporting high-speed communication interfaces and peripheral systems.
- Configure and optimize real-time operating systems (RTOS) to meet system performance and timing requirements.
- Support hardware integration efforts, including board bring-up, troubleshooting, and debugging hardware-to-firmware interactions.
- Design diagnostic tools and automated Python-based test solutions to validate hardware performance and system reliability.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers on circuit design, component selection, schematics, and PCB development.
- Perform code reviews, maintain version control standards, and support software documentation processes.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 4+ years of relevant embedded firmware engineering experience.
- Strong experience with C/C++ development in embedded environments.
- Experience with RTOS fundamentals, including multi-threaded systems, interrupt handling, and real-time scheduling.
- Experience with Python, Git, Linux, and embedded software development tools.
- Familiarity with FPGA development environments, including Xilinx or Altera platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively across engineering teams.
- Ability to travel up to 5% domestically and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Experience developing drivers or communication stacks for high-speed protocols including Ethernet, PCIe, or USB-C.
- Experience configuring and optimizing DDR3/DDR4/DDR5 memory controllers.
- Strong understanding of Verilog/HDL and FPGA interfaces including AXI, SPI, I2C, or custom protocols.
- Experience reviewing and troubleshooting Cadence Allegro schematics.
