Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Engineer to provide technical leadership on complex industrial engineering and EPC projects. This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with strong expertise in power distribution and power generation who can lead technical execution, influence critical engineering decisions, and support projects from concept through commissioning.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial electrical systems and EPC project execution, along with working knowledge of instrumentation and controls sufficient to coordinate multidisciplinary EIC activities. Deep expertise in every instrumentation and controls specialty is not required; the primary focus of this role is electrical engineering leadership.
This position is based in Charleston, WV, with approximately 15% 25% travel as project requirements dictate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering execution for EPC projects involving industrial power distribution, power generation, and related facility infrastructure.
- Provide senior-level technical leadership throughout project development, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
- Direct and review electrical engineering deliverables, calculations, analyses, drawings, specifications, and construction packages.
- Ensure electrical designs meet project requirements, applicable codes and standards, safety expectations, and constructability requirements.
- Coordinate electrical, instrumentation, and controls scope across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Lead or oversee power system studies and key electrical deliverables, including:
- Single-line diagrams
- Electrical equipment layouts
- Grounding and bonding systems
- Lighting systems
- Cable schedules and documentation
- Electrical equipment specifications
- Power distribution systems
- Related electrical design packages
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.
- Coordinate technical interfaces between electrical, instrumentation, controls, mechanical, civil/structural, process, and construction disciplines.
- Work closely with project managers, customers, vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical issues and maintain project progress.
- Review vendor documentation and provide technical input during equipment procurement and integration.
- Support field activities, construction support, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting as required.
- Identify technical risks and develop practical engineering solutions to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective project execution.
- Participate in customer meetings and serve as a trusted technical resource for project stakeholders.
- Support business development and customer relationship efforts by providing technical expertise, project insight, and practical engineering solutions.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 8+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in industrial environments.
- Proven experience with industrial power distribution and/or power generation projects.
- Experience leading electrical engineering activities within an EPC, design-build, or similar project environment.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, applicable electrical codes and standards, and power system studies.
- Working knowledge of instrumentation and controls sufficient to coordinate multidisciplinary EIC engineering activities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and make sound engineering decisions.
- Experience coordinating technical interfaces among engineering disciplines, vendors, contractors, and customers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
- Ability to work from Charleston, WV and travel approximately 15% 25% as project needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration or the ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience in the chemical, energy, petrochemical, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial markets.
- Experience with medium- and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with power generation facilities and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Familiarity with control system integration and field instrumentation.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and engineering deliverables.
- Experience providing construction, commissioning, and startup support.
- Strong understanding of electrical equipment selection, specifications, and vendor coordination.
