Responsibilities:

MaxLinear is seeking a Senior Director Platform and Applications Engineering focused on high-speed data center interconnects to join our team. In this role, you will focus on growing our Data Center Connectivity BU (DCC) business:

 

  • Provide leadership to a global team of Platform and Applications Engineers providing design-in technical support to global customers for DCC BUs products
  • Help team prioritize tasks, interface with customers and internal teams, manage budget, and annual resource plans
  • Manage team of hardware and software engineers to create reference designs using MxL products for customer evaluation and adoption; reference designs may include Transceiver modules, opto-electronic engines, and active cables used in high-speed datacenters
  • Manage Applications Engineering team that interfaces between customers and internal teams to overcome customer design-in challenges by reproducing, debugging, and solving technical issues emerging from the integration of MxL products in customer platforms
  • Support internal development of FW augmentation, API driver, and diagnostic tools
  • Work with regional Sales and FAEs to secure design wins and strengthen relationships with key customers and strategic partners; understand customer use cases and requirements and help craft product requirements for internal development teams
  • Gather customer and market information including use case studies, new product roadmap, and competitive intelligence studies, and analysis to support marketing
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to define validation plans for high-speed Ethernet/InfiniBand optical transceivers, active optical cables (AOCs), and active electronic cables (AECs) tested by the automated test equipment (ATE)
  • Build and manage test and validation labs geared towards customer enablement
Qualifications:
  • Previous management experience building and managing large engineering teams is a must
  • Broad knowledge of analog circuit and system hardware integration, firmware and software in application layer issues; experience in RF/SI simulation tool (ADS or HFSS)
  • Extensive knowledge of optical transceiver products at system and application levels including optical modules and components, and optical communications systems
  • Strong software and hardware design and debugging skills are desirable. Driver integration and ATE development experience for platform characterization/debugging is a plus
  • Experience in 400G/800G/1.6T transceiver design using DML, EML, Sipho driver/TIA/CDR/DSP/PAM4; including circuit design, HW/SW debug and application support is preferred.
  • Experience in high-speed digital and RF/microwave PCB design
  • Familiar with a range of laboratory instruments, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers, digital communication analyzers (DCAs), optical/electrical clock recovery (CDRs), logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers and bit error rate (BER) testers
  • Previous experience in high speed Serdes or Analog IC development or in optical transceiver module development is a must
  • Strong leadership is required to oversee the work of application and platform engineers specializing in high-speed networking hardware, software and validation systems
  • Strong ownership to productively drive customer technical issues to closure, interfacing between the customer and internal engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with customers and various internal groups such as marketing, engineering, sales, and operations
  • Previous experience of supporting IC products in a high-volume market
  • Ability to process multiple tasks, strong technical account management, and project management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to deal with both technical and business challenges
  • Strong communicator with experience presenting to senior management
  • Customer support experience is desirable
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related + 15 years of experience, or MS + 13 years of experience, or Ph.D. + 10 years of experience
Compensation and Benefits:

MaxLinear has a Total Compensation philosophy which includes base salary and annual discretionary bonus eligibility and many positions also include stock-based compensation.

 

MaxLinear's good faith estimate starting base salary range is:  $238,000 to $294,000 Annually

The actual starting base salary will be determined by the match to certain role-related criteria such as educational degree(s) or equivalent, relevant work experience, skillset needed for the role, and geographic location; this is not an all-inclusive list as some roles may require unique skills or experience.
