The organization is seeking a Senior Director of Accounting to lead health plan accounting operations, oversee medical expense reserving, and provide strategic financial leadership across a growing risk-bearing healthcare platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end monthly close process for health plan accounting, including:
- Medical expense reserves and IBNR
- Revenue recognition and accruals, including risk adjustment (RAF)
- Capitation accounting
- Financial reconciliations across multiple payer and risk-sharing arrangements
- Lead preparation and review of monthly financial reporting packages for executive leadership, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
- Oversee IBNR estimation processes and manage relationships with external actuarial partners.
- Direct the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and settlement activities.
- Ensure SOX compliance and strengthen internal control processes related to financial reporting.
- Lead external audit activities and serve as the primary accounting contact for auditor inquiries.
- Partner closely with FP&A, operations, and executive leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
- Establish and enhance scalable accounting policies, procedures, and financial management processes within a multi-entity environment.
- Monitor financial performance against organizational goals, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing accounting and finance team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA strongly preferred; Master's degree a plus.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience within healthcare.
- 3+ years leading accounting or finance teams.
- Experience within publicly traded organizations and SOX-controlled environments.
- Strong expertise in:
- Health plan accounting
- IBNR and medical expense reserving
- Risk adjustment revenue (RAF)
- Capitation accounting
- Managed care and value-based care models
- Global and shared-risk arrangements
- Multi-entity financial reporting
- Experience working with external auditors and actuarial partners.
- Proven ability to lead in a fast-paced, growth-oriented healthcare environment.
