Job Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support the design, implementation, automation, and ongoing management of scalable cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines within an AWS environment. The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on expertise in Kubernetes, AWS, DevOps, and CI/CD, along with experience using infrastructure-as-code and automation technologies such as Terraform and Python. This individual will play a key role in improving the scalability, reliability, security, and operational efficiency of cloud-based applications and services. Exposure to DataOps, Apache Spark, Snowflake, Databricks, Python, and scripting/automation would be considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable AWS cloud infrastructure supporting enterprise applications and services.
- Develop and manage Kubernetes clusters using AWS EKS, including scaling, upgrades, security, monitoring, and ongoing cluster administration.
- Build and maintain automated infrastructure provisioning and configuration processes using Python, Terraform, and other scripting/automation technologies.
- Develop reusable and modular Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) templates using Terraform.
- Apply best practices for Terraform version control, modularization, reusability, and deployment.
- Containerize applications using Docker and maintain Dockerfiles and Docker Compose configurations where required.
- Configure and manage AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudFormation, and related cloud services.
- Design, implement, and enhance CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline, or similar platforms.
- Integrate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management into automated CI/CD workflows.
- Implement monitoring and alerting using tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, or comparable monitoring platforms.
- Develop and support centralized logging solutions using technologies such as CloudWatch Logs, ELK Stack, Splunk, or similar platforms.
- Apply cloud security and compliance best practices, including least-privilege access, encryption, identity management, and secure network configuration.
- Manage IAM roles and policies, encryption keys, security groups, and other AWS security controls.
- Support compliance requirements and security standards such as CIS benchmarks, GDPR, HIPAA, and related frameworks.
- Optimize cloud environments for performance, scalability, availability, and cost efficiency.
- Monitor cloud utilization and spending and identify opportunities for cost optimization through rightsizing, auto-scaling, and AWS cost management tools.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, deployment, networking, and cloud platform issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, development, data, security, and other technology teams to support reliable application delivery.
- Participate in rotational support shifts as required.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, preferably within AWS EKS.
- Strong knowledge of AWS cloud architecture and services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, and CloudFormation.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline, or similar technologies.
- Experience with Terraform or comparable Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.
- Experience with Docker and containerized application environments.
- Experience with scripting and automation, preferably using Python.
- Strong understanding of cloud networking, security, identity and access management, and infrastructure best practices.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, observability, and production troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex cloud infrastructure issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical teams.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies, platforms, tools, and development approaches.
- Self-directed and detail-oriented with strong ownership of assigned deliverables.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting DataOps or modern data platform environments.
- Exposure to technologies such as Apache Spark, Snowflake, and Databricks.
- Experience supporting large-scale data processing or analytics workloads within cloud environments.
- Advanced Python scripting or automation experience.
- Experience working within highly regulated environments, including healthcare, life sciences, financial services, or similar industries.
- Professional certifications such as AWS Certified, HashiCorp Terraform Associate, CKA, or CKAD.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Required Experience
- 4 years of professional experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, or a related role, with significant experience supporting AWS environments.
