    Description

    Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Design Manager to join its Supply Chain Facilities Management (SCFM) team Dallas Texas.

    Key job responsibilities

    Our team is responsible for delivering and sustaining the network of supply chain facilities - warehouses, logistics and distribution hubs, integration and staging centres - that underpin the AWS infrastructure build programme. We drive to develop a portfolio of facilities that emphasise security, safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness, while finding new ways to keep pace with AWS's growing demand.

    As Global Design Manager in SCFM at AWS, you will own the end-to-end design strategy for supply chain facilities across NALA, EMEA, and APAC - defining technical standards, driving design reviews, and ensuring consistency and quality across the global portfolio.. You will be part of a highly creative and efficient team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo - across new-build, fit-out, extension, and the technical assessment and repurposing of existing buildings.

    AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on - and the supply chain and facilities network that makes that delivery possible. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

    You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

    Key Job Responsibilities

    • Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction and fit-out;
    • Lead the technical due diligence of candidate buildings and sites - assessing structural capacity, M&E systems, fire and life safety, compliance, and overall suitability - to inform acquisition, lease, and repurposing decisions;
    • Creating and tracking metrics related to cost, quality and duration of design, as well as collecting data from construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented. Establishing capital project design budgets and contributing to complex business cases for existing region and new region deployment. Collaborating with AWS finance teams to secure funding for projects;
    • Working in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule engineering resources and influence design changes based on internal customer needs;
    • Partnering with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule and deliverables. Create, review, and release design RFPs. Direct the technical output of external design consultants through the design and construction lifecycle - setting expectations, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with AWS standards and project requirements. Coordinate with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Cabling design engineers;
    • Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs and schedule without negative impacts on quality or reliability. Travel for site assessments, due diligence surveys, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%;
    • Coordinate and oversee permitting and design consultant workstreams, ensuring regulatory compliance, schedule adherence, and quality standards are met across concurrent projects.
    • Complete after-action reviews and identify opportunities for process improvement.

    It’s Always Day 1
    At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
    Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
