A healthcare technology organization is hiring
two Senior Database Engineers to support and modernize a business-critical database environment.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with deep Microsoft SQL Server experience who also understands cloud database environments. The organization is beginning a longer-term modernization initiative that will move database workloads into AWS and increasingly leverage managed and PostgreSQL-based database technologies.
The successful candidate will combine strong production DBA fundamentals with cloud engineering, automation, observability, performance optimization, and migration experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Engineer and support highly available, business-critical SQL Server database environments.
- Troubleshoot complex database performance, locking, blocking, resource, connectivity, and availability problems.
- Analyze execution plans and optimize queries, stored procedures, indexes, schemas, statistics, and application data-access patterns.
- Support database migrations and modernization initiatives involving AWS and managed database services.
- Help evaluate and execute longer-term transitions toward PostgreSQL and cloud-native database platforms.
- Build and improve database monitoring, telemetry, alerting, automation, and operational tooling.
- Support backup/recovery, disaster recovery, replication, resiliency, patching, upgrades, and database lifecycle management.
- Partner directly with application and infrastructure engineers during projects and production incidents.
Role Requirements- Significant hands-on Microsoft SQL Server engineering/administration experience.
- Advanced SQL Server troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills.
- Production experience supporting databases in AWS.
- Experience with Amazon RDS, Aurora, EC2-based database environments, or related AWS database services.
- Experience participating in database migrations, upgrades, or re-platforming initiatives.
- Strong production-support and incident-resolution capabilities.
- Experience automating database engineering or operational processes.
- Ability to work broadly across database, cloud, application, monitoring, and operational concerns.
- Comfortable working in a small engineering team where responsibilities are not heavily siloed.
- Ability to work EST hours and participate in rotational production support.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE- PostgreSQL administration and performance tuning.
- Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.
- SQL Server-to-PostgreSQL migration experience.
- Azure SQL technologies.
- Infrastructure as Code.
- IDERA or comparable database monitoring platforms.
