The Robotics AI Lab (RAIL) at UPS is driving the future of global logistics through cutting-edge AI research and development. We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist for AI/ML R&D with robust research and engineering background to help lead this transformation. In this highly visible role, you will architect and deploy innovative AI solutions-with a strong focus on Agentic AI-to optimize and automate critical operational systems. Beyond hands-on development, you will serve as a strategic visionary for the team: defining AI guidelines, leading complex Agentic AI and machine learning projects, and partnering closely with internal and external domain experts. Leveraging your advanced expertise in AI/ML, data engineering, and MLOps, you will solve large-scale challenges that actively reshape the future of the logistic and supply chain industry.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • End-to-End ML Development: Architect, deploy, and continuously optimize advanced predictive and forecasting models that directly influence operational strategy and efficiency.
  • Strategic Data Analysis: Lead large-scale data explorations and pipeline establishment to uncover actionable insights, drive product innovation and the enhancement of existing supply chain solutions.
  • Advanced Problem Solving: Pioneer and validate novel, data-driven methodologies to solve complex, open-ended challenges unique to the global logistics landscape.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Act as a strategic partner to engineering, product, and operations teams to conceptualize robust systems and oversee the end-to-end deployment and validation of data architectures and pipelines for AI solutions.
  • Agentic AI Innovation: Spearhead development efforts alongside Agentic AI teams and multidisciplinary industry experts to define, build, and guide the rollout of cutting-edge AI applications.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Education: Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience: 4+ years of applied industry or research experience directly focused on AI/ML, Data Science, and scalable cloud deployments.
  • Programming & Frameworks: Advanced proficiency in Python, with deep expertise leveraging leading AI/ML libraries and frameworks.
  • Advanced AI Applications: Hands-on experience building, integrating, and deploying cutting-edge Generative AI or Agentic AI applications.
  • MLOps & Production: Expert-level knowledge of MLOps principles and best practices for deploying, monitoring, and managing machine learning models in production environments.
  • Data Engineering: Proven track record of designing, building, and deploying large-scale data pipelines and applying robust data engineering principles.
  • Cloud & CI/CD: Extensive experience with cloud computing platforms-specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP)-along with building automated CI/CD pipelines for model deployment.
  • This job is a Grade 30F
  • No relocation assistance offered.
  • Must be currently located in the same geographic location as the job or willing to self-relocate.
