Description

Position Overview:
  • Our client is seeking a Senior Data Center Network Engineer to support a large-scale data center decommissioning and infrastructure consolidation initiative.
  • The role involves working within a complex, brownfield environment for a major banking institution in New York City.
  • This is a permanent, full-time, on-site position requiring a 40-hour work week.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Conduct detailed network audits to identify specific infrastructure targeted for retirement.
  • Back up all configurations, routing tables, and VLAN databases before starting decommissioning activities.
  • Design and execute robust traffic migration strategies to maintain seamless service continuity.
  • Decommission legacy routers, switches, and firewalls while maintaining accurate network documentation.
  • Migrate legacy infrastructure to modern, high-performance data center platforms.
  • Lead and manage terminal server consolidation initiatives.
  • Perform thorough post-migration testing and validation activities to ensure network stability.
  • Operate strictly within formal change management and Change Advisory Board (CAB) approval processes.
  • Partner closely with infrastructure, operations, and project teams to coordinate migration activities.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional work experience.
  • At least 10 years of enterprise and data center networking experience.
  • Advanced, hands-on expertise with Cisco Data Center Networking technologies including Nexus, Catalyst, ASR, ACI, Routing, and Switching.
  • Proven experience in data center decommissioning, migration planning, and infrastructure consolidation within brownfield environments.
  • High proficiency in Enterprise Routing and Switching Protocols, specifically BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VXLAN, and EVPN.
  • An active Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Enterprise or CCNP Data Center certification.
  • Exceptional native or bilingual English communication skills.
Nice to Have Qualifications & Skills:
  • An active Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Data Center certification is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Juniper MX and EX networking platforms.
  • Operational experience with F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and Global Traffic Manager (GTM).
  • Proficiency in network automation using Python scripting and/or Ansible.
  • Experience using network management tools such as SolarWinds or CiscoWorks.
  • Familiarity with Visio or equivalent network diagramming tools for documentation.
  • Possession of an ITIL Foundation or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
