Senior Counterparty Credit Risk Specialist – Credit Review Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Specialist to join a Credit Review organization supporting the independent assessment of credit decisions and credit processes across the bank.
This is a senior-level credit and risk position focused on reviewing portfolios with Counterparty Credit Risk exposure and Structured Financing Transactions globally, including exposures involving hedge funds, asset managers, central counterparties and other sophisticated financial institutions.
The Portfolio Specialist will work closely with Portfolio Managers to establish and execute risk-based coverage plans, perform detailed transaction reviews, lead examinations, identify existing and emerging risks, manage issues, and communicate findings to senior stakeholders.
Candidates with 10+ years of direct Counterparty Credit Risk, Credit Review, Market Risk, or Credit Portfolio Management experience are strongly preferred.
Job Responsibilities
Senior Counterparty Credit Risk Specialist – Credit Review Key Responsibilities
- Participate in Credit Review examinations and periodically serve as an Examiner-in-Charge (EIC), Assistant Examiner-in-Charge (AEIC), or Examiner
- Perform transactional testing of credit processes for new and existing clients
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of credit decisions, policies and processes
- Analyze counterparty credit risk exposures and identify existing and emerging risks
- Review credit limits, exposure metrics, margin practices, risk sensitivities and stress-testing processes
- Provide timely, fact-based feedback and conclusions based on transaction reviews
- Track and follow up on observations and findings from examinations
- Manage issues, including severity ratings, action plans, status tracking and issue validation
- Assist Portfolio Managers with portfolio reporting, quarterly Business Assessment
- Reports and Coverage Plans
- Participate in discussions with senior stakeholders and relevant Risk partners
- Maintain ongoing relationships with regulatory and risk partners
- Provide updates to regulators regarding review results and respond to regulatory inquiries
- Coordinate with Corporate Audit to maintain awareness of review activity and risk assessments
- Lead or participate in complex projects designed to improve processes and risk management
- Coach, mentor and review the work of newer or less experienced team members
- Maintain accurate, thorough and well-written work papers in accordance with Credit
- Review standards
- Monitor economic and market trends and assess their potential impact on relevant credit portfolios
Qualifications
Senior Counterparty Credit Risk Specialist – Credit Review Required Qualifications
8–10+ years of commercial credit experience in areas such as:
- Credit underwriting
- Direct lending
- Workout
- Credit Review
- Risk Management
- Regulatory examination
- Strong understanding of Counterparty Credit Risk
- Experience with concepts including:
- Credit limits
- Exposure metrics
- Margin practices
- Risk sensitivities
- Stress testing
- Trading agreements
- ISDA/CSA
- Strong credit analysis and financial analysis skills
- Experience identifying, assessing and communicating credit and risk issues
- Ability to develop fact-based conclusions and communicate findings to senior

- Experience managing multiple complex assignments while maintaining high-quality work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working in risk management, lending, credit review or regulatory environments

Senior Counterparty Credit Risk Specialist – Credit Review Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of direct Counterparty Credit Risk, Market Risk or Credit Portfolio Management experience
- Experience supporting Hedge Funds, Prime Brokerage or Regulated Funds
- Previous experience in Credit Review, internal audit or a comparable independent risk-review function
- Experience identifying and reporting existing and emerging risks
- Experience leading examinations or credit reviews
- Experience coaching or mentoring junior professionals
- Advanced Excel skills
