The Senior Counsel Employment provides legal counsel and representation on a broad range of labor and employment law matters. This role partners with Human Resources, business leaders, and senior management to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, mitigate legal risk, support workplace investigations, and manage employment-related litigation and agency matters.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to Human Resources and business leaders on a broad range of employment law matters, including hiring, performance management, disciplinary actions, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, and employee separations.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations by interpreting legal requirements, monitoring regulatory developments, and recommending policy, process, and practice enhancements.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and update employment-related documents, including policies, employee handbooks, employment agreements, separation agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, and other workforce-related documentation.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel on complex employee relations matters, workplace disputes, and organizational challenges, balancing legal risk with practical business considerations.
  • Conduct or oversee sensitive workplace investigations involving allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, ethics violations, misconduct, and other employee concerns, recommending appropriate corrective actions and risk mitigation measures.
  • Manage employment-related litigation, arbitration, administrative proceedings, and agency matters, including responses to EEOC, Department of Labor, and state agency claims, while coordinating with outside counsel as needed.
  • Develop case strategies, assess litigation risk, support settlement negotiations, and implement proactive measures to minimize legal exposure and protect organizational interests.
  • Advise leadership on workforce initiatives and business transactions, including reorganizations, reductions in force, acquisitions, restructurings, and other employment-related impacts, ensuring legal compliance and effective risk management.
  • Partner with Human Resources, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver employment law training, foster compliant workplace practices, and provide proactive guidance supporting strategic workforce and organizational objectives.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Currently practicing as an attorney (law firm, in-house, or similar legal role)
  • 4-7 years of experience practicing employment law, either in-house or with a law firm
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience managing employment litigation and conducting workplace investigations.
  • Experience supporting multi-state or global organizations.
  • In-house corporate legal experience.
  • Experience advising on labor relations and collective bargaining matters.
  • Professional certifications related to employment or labor law.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in fast paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

This is a hybrid position with a minimum requirement of 2-days a week in-office in either Lone Tree, Colorado or Tampa, Florida.
