    Description

    Senior Corporate Accountant

Granite Comfort  ·  Remote (US, Eastern or Central)  ·  Full-time  ·  Reports to the Corporate Controller

Granite Comfort is a private equity-backed platform of nine regional residential HVAC and plumbing contractors with approximately 600 employees. Alongside traditional equipment sales, our brands offer equipment on a monthly rental basis, with Granite Comfort owning and maintaining the equipment. That rental business sits in its own set of entities, so the consolidation covers two arms rather than one.

We are adding an additional member to our lean corporate accounting team. Corporate accounting is primarily responsible for establishing and overseeing common accounting processes across the brands, consolidation across entities including the rental activities, and leading the annual audit and tax filings. We run on Sage Intacct, ServiceTitan, FloQast and Ramp. Day-to-day Sage Intacct experience is a prerequisite.

Each brand has dedicated accounting resources. This role is the day-to-day partner to those brand teams. Importantly, that includes review of their work before it reaches corporate, along with keeping the inputs moving and general troubleshooting so the close lands on time. You will also own the corporate entity's own accounting.

If you are a strong, self-directed accountant who is good at reviewing other people's work, patient with people who are still learning, and relentless about chasing down what you need, this is a role where you will matter immediately.

    What you will do

Brand accounting team support — roughly 60% of the role

    • Serve as the first point of contact for nine brand controllers and accounting teams. Lead responses to day-to-day questions on close, Intacct, FloQast, lease schedules, reconciliations and process.
    • Perform preliminary review of brand financial packages ahead of Controller review. Identify errors, unexplained variances and inconsistencies, and work them out directly with each brand before they move up.
    • Review FloQast completion and quality across the brands. Follow up where reconciliations are missing, incomplete or not supported.
    • Own corporate level inputs and allocations — workers' compensation figures, payroll, benefits, centrally billed vendors, lease agreements and the supporting schedules that come from outside accounting. Providing these on a timely basis is a key component of an overall timely close.
    • Coordinate lease schedule preparation end to end — collect the agreement, route it, follow up, and confirm the schedule is received and booked.
    • Support the annual audit by coordinating documentation requests across the brands, tracking open items, and keeping the auditors supplied without routing everything through the Controller.
    • Reinforce standard process across the brands and flag where it is drifting.

Corporate entity accounting — roughly 40% of the role

    • Own accounts payable for the corporate and holding company entities — entry, coding, approval routing and clean export into Sage Intacct via Ramp.
    • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for the corporate entities.
    • Review payroll, allocate workers' compensation, and book benefits activity.
    • Prepare intercompany allocations across the nine operating brands — roughly 30 to 40 entries per month covering salary, cost center, commission and labor, built so they eliminate cleanly at close.
    • Prepare schedules and support files for the annual external audit.
    • Serve as a second Sage Intacct administrator.

    Where this role can grow

Over the first twelve to eighteen months, and depending on how quickly you get comfortable, this role can take on further holding company reconciliation, consolidation support and elimination entries. That work is deep, it takes time to learn, and we are not expecting it on day one — but it is available to someone who wants it.

    What we are looking for

    • Sage Intacct experience. This one is firm. You will be working in it daily and acting as our administrative backup on the system, and we do not have the capacity to teach it.
    • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including multi-entity month-end close.
    • Experience reviewing other people's work and giving clear, specific, unemotional feedback on it. Much of this role is catching what someone else missed and getting it corrected without friction.
    • Comfort following up persistently with people who do not report to you. A meaningful part of this job is chasing inputs across nine brands and several departments and not letting items drop.
    • Strong organization across many small open threads at once. You will be tracking dozens of items in parallel during close week.
    • A demonstrated habit of tracking down reconciliation differences rather than adjusting past them. When two things do not agree, we need to know why, not make them match.
    • Experience preparing support for an external audit.
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.

    Nice to have

    • ServiceTitan or a comparable field-service platform. Helpful, but we can bring you up to speed.
    • Hands-on preparation of consolidations and intercompany eliminations — as the preparer, not only as a reviewer or an auditor of them.
    • Multi-location or multi-brand services environment.
    • Private equity-backed or sponsor-backed company experience.

    Location, hours and compensation

    • Fully remote within the United States, Eastern or Central time zone, with flexible hours. Some travel required.
    • Base salary range $105,000 to $120,000 depending on experience, plus a 15% target annual bonus.
    • Medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k), and paid time off.

    Interview process

An initial conversation with the Corporate Controller, a short practical exercise using a reconciliation that does not tie, and a final conversation with the CFO and other members of the management team. We use the exercise because it tells us more than an interview does.
