    Vice President, Benefits Consulting

    About the Opportunity

    A well-established benefits consulting organization is seeking a Vice President to provide strategic leadership across a portfolio of complex Health & Welfare clients. This individual will serve as a senior advisor, oversee client relationships, guide consulting teams, and help shape long-term benefits strategies.

    The ideal candidate has extensive experience within an employee benefits consulting firm, brokerage, or carrier environment and is comfortable working directly with executive-level stakeholders. This position offers a combination of client leadership, technical consulting, team development, and business growth responsibilities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and expand relationships with large and complex Health & Welfare clients
    • Advise clients on benefits strategy, plan design, funding, cost management, and vendor optimization
    • Oversee projects across medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary benefits, spending accounts, and stop-loss coverage
    • Guide renewal planning, claims analysis, financial modeling, benchmarking, and utilization reviews
    • Lead RFP processes, vendor evaluations, negotiations, and implementation initiatives
    • Present strategic and financial recommendations to senior leadership and executive committees
    • Identify emerging cost drivers, marketplace trends, compliance considerations, and plan improvement opportunities
    • Provide oversight and direction to consultants, analysts, and client service professionals
    • Mentor team members and support their continued professional development
    • Contribute to business development through prospect meetings, finalist presentations, and industry relationships
    • Partner with internal leaders to improve client delivery, team performance, and practice growth

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
    • 15+ years of experience in Health & Welfare consulting, employee benefits brokerage, underwriting, or a related environment
    • Strong knowledge of group health plan strategy, financial analysis, funding arrangements, and vendor management
    • Experience managing sophisticated client relationships and presenting to executive-level audiences
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and oversee complex consulting engagements
    • Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills
    • Working knowledge of employee benefits regulations and healthcare compliance requirements
    • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and benefits-related technology platforms

    Preferred Experience

    • CEBS designation, actuarial training, underwriting experience, or another relevant professional credential
    • Active Health and Life license or willingness to obtain one
    • Experience supporting business development and finalist presentations
    • Established professional relationships within the Washington, DC and Mid-Atlantic benefits market
