Summary

Lidl US is searching for the next Senior Construction Manager to join our Real Estate team in our Charlotte, NC (CLT) Regional Property Office!

The Senior Construction Manager is responsible for leading the design and construction of the physical structures needed to conduct Lidl US business in North and South Carolina. This includes stores, offices, and other construction projects. This role ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget, with the required quality standards, while navigating local municipal zoning, environmental regulations, and unique market constraints to meet the needs of the business.

What You'll Do

Essential Functions

Supervise, mentor, or manage team members as needed in accordance with Company principles and management model

Oversee the development and execution of assigned projects and initiatives in collaboration with cross department stakeholders

Support full entitlement, zoning, variances, site plan approvals, and due diligence processes through NC and SC municipal planning boards and environmental agencies

Manage the design process from conceptual planning through construction completion while maintaining prototypical standards

Research, analyze, calculate, and manage construction costs tailored to the NC and SC labor and material markets

Manage various store projects and personnel related to project bidding, contract award, store construction and project closeout/handover

Lead project team consisting of various consultants, general contractors, internal colleagues, and internal departments

Oversee quality, safety, time, and cost controls of construction projects

Create KPI reports and monitor

Conduct negotiations with regional manufacturers, trade subcontractors, and suppliers in order to purchase targeted construction products

Analyze and evaluate current processes and projects for recommended optimization

Evaluate industry best practices and monitor developments and innovations within the retail sector particular to their business that may be beneficial to the daily operations of the organization

Establish design parameters based on specific SC and NC business needs and site-specific constraints (e.g., high-density parking requirements, utility infrastructure, and strict regional architectural mandates)

Perform other duties as assigned

What You'll Need

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of construction means and methods, contract and change order negotiation, building codes, health and safety regulations and entitlement processes

Excellent supervisory and leadership skills, with the ability to train others

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or similar

7+ years of experience in a related field

In lieu of degree, 10+ years of experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above

Must possess and maintain, or be able to obtain, a current, valid US driver's license

Preferred Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

Experience managing commercial/retail build-outs in the NC and SC metropolitan area highly preferred

Physical Job Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times

Travel Requirements

This position commutes heavily between regional field offices, existing NC and SC store locations, future real estate sites, active construction zones, and regional distribution hubs up to 60% of the time

This position requires overnight domestic travel (including to the corporate headquarters in Arlington, VA) up to 50% of the time
