Senior Completions & Commissioning Coordinator

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Completions & Commissioning Coordinator to support complex commercial and industrial construction projects across the United States. This is an excellent contract-to-hire opportunity for a hands-on professional with extensive experience in construction completions, commissioning, startup, and turnover processes.
The successful candidate will lead commissioning and completions activities from planning through final turnover, ensuring all systems, equipment, and documentation meet contractual requirements while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
This role requires the ability to travel extensively to project sites nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the review of project specifications to identify commissioning and completions requirements.
- Develop, verify, and finalize turnover boundaries and turnover packages.
- Establish and maintain project tracking systems, reporting tools, and turnover documentation.
- Train and support field personnel on completions and commissioning processes and documentation requirements.
- Coordinate vendor commissioning requirements and communicate expectations with project teams.
- Develop and implement commissioning, startup, and system turnover plans.
- Lead field execution of completions and commissioning activities throughout project lifecycle.
- Perform acceptance and rejection verification of installed equipment and construction completion.
- Inspect installed equipment and systems to verify proper installation and readiness.
- Coordinate checkout, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Troubleshoot field issues and coordinate resolution with project stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and turnover records throughout all project phases.
- Mentor and provide leadership to Assistant and Staff-level Completions & Commissioning personnel.
- Support project proposals and planning efforts related to commissioning services.
- Utilize testing equipment and understand startup procedures involving PLCs, control systems, and field instrumentation.
- Provide oversight and support for mechanical systems including:
- Piping
- Rotating equipment
- Static equipment
- Structural steel
- Welding
- Rigging
- Insulation
- Heat tracing
- Painting and coatings
- Hydrostatic testing
- Fire protection systems
- Provide oversight and support for electrical systems including:
- Electrical installation
- Conduit systems
- Cable pulling
- Relay testing
- Substations
- Equipment terminations
- Perform responsibilities typically associated with Mechanical or Electrical Superintendent roles as needed.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all company and project safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following experience and education combinations:
- High School Diploma or GED with 11+ years of completions and/or commissioning experience
OR - Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field with 9+ years of relevant experience
OR - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience
Additional qualifications include:
- Strong knowledge of construction completions, commissioning, startup, and system turnover processes
- Experience supporting commercial and industrial construction projects
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical construction systems
- Experience coordinating testing and startup activities
- Understanding of PLCs, control systems, and field instrumentation
- Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to lead field teams and manage multiple priorities
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience on EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) projects
- Experience with large industrial, manufacturing, power, energy, oil & gas, chemical, or infrastructure projects
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
- Experience managing turnover packages and commissioning documentation software
