Senior Cloud (GCP) Engineer (Data Platform)

This is a contract position for a Senior Cloud Engineer focused on data platform infrastructure, based in Dallas, Texas. The role is for a 6+ month engagement and offers the opportunity to drive cloud platform modernization and build scalable, automated solutions for a data-focused organization.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code practices
• Develop internal platform tooling, automation solutions, and operational support capabilities using Python
• Drive the strategic transition from AWS to GCP, helping to modernize the platform architecture
• Identify and automate repetitive operational tasks to improve platform reliability and reduce manual processes
• Build and maintain scalable solutions that address the needs of data-focused end users
• Collaborate with platform teams to support real-time data movement infrastructure, including Confluent and streaming technologies
• Integrate AI-powered tools and automation into platform engineering workflows to enhance operational support

Qualifications

• Required
• Proficiency with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Strong experience with Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code practices
• Solid Python programming skills
• Platform engineering mindset with demonstrated ability to think beyond support tickets, automate workflows, and design for scalability and operational excellence
• Experience using AI tools and platforms (such as GitHub Copilot, Gemini Enterprise, or Vertex AI) in engineering workflows
• Preferred
• Data engineering background or familiarity with data lakes, data governance, data storage lifecycle, and data consumption patterns
• Experience with Kafka, Confluent Cloud, streaming architectures, and related connectors
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
• Hands-on experience building AI-enabled tools or leveraging AI for operational automation
