Senior Cloud Engineer

About the role

The Cloud Engineer role is a highly self-driven, technically curious position that sits at the intersection of moderncloudnativesoftware engineering and the rugged physicalsystems domain. In this role you will design, build, andoperatethe scalable, secure infrastructure that powers ouroceancurrentvisualization and prediction platform,delivering massive,realtimedata streams from modelsand digital twinstoenduseroperators. You willbe responsible forcreatingendtoendcloud solutions that ingest, store, and process scientific data, provision compute resources forhigh-performancedigitaltwinsimulations, and expose robust, versioned APIs (REST,gRPC, WebSocket) that downstream applications consume. Because many of our products run on physical platforms such as unmanned surface vessels, offshore rigs, anddefensegradesensor suites, we seek candidates with proven experience buildingcloudcentricdata pipelines,containerorchestratedworkloads, and automated DevOps/CICD frameworks for robotics, automotive, manufacturing, oil & gas,IIoT, defense, or aerospace applications. Your ability to translate complex scientific workloads into reliable,costeffectivecloud services will directly enable operators and analysts to visualize and act on critical maritime information. 

Integer is a science and technology research and development organization. As such, much of our work entails developing solutions for complex problems that presently have no known solutions. To achieve internal and customer project goals all candidates must be able toconductresearch, understand new concepts from other engineering disciplines on advanced and complex topics, and document findings in a way that is easy for non-experts to understand. 

What you'll do

• Designa cloud deployment architecturethat bridges multiple customer clouds 

• Deployand manage containerized simulation workloads onKubernetes(EKS, AKS, GKE) or on managed batch services. Implement jobscheduling, autoscaling, and provisioning for compute-intensive models. 

• Collaboratewith backend engineers to design secure, versioned services. ImplementAPIgateway, throttling, and authentication (OAuth2 / OpenID Connect) that the frontend UI consumes. 

• Observeusingcentralized logging (ELK/EFK), metrics (Prometheus + Grafana, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor), and distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry) to achieveSLOgradeincident detection androotcauseanalysis 

• EnforceleastprivilegeIAM policies, data encryption at rest/inflight, secret management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager), and vulnerability scanning (Trivy, Snyk). Ensure the environment meets FedRAMP/NIST80053 baselinesfor any governmentfunded work. 

• Evaluateemerging cloud services (e.g., serverless GPUs, managed AI pipelines,datameshconcepts) that could accelerate digitaltwin simulations or improve data latency. 

Qualifications

Core Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US DoD/DoWSecret clearance. 

• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. 

• 4+ years of relevant experience incloud architecture andmanagement 

• Ability to travel up to approximately20% of time. 

Additional Desired Skillsets

• Experience runningDigitalTwinsorSimulations in the cloud 

• Familiarity with complianceframeworkslike FedRAMP, DoD/DoWSRG, and NIST-800-53 

• Knowledge and understandingof back-end development usingtoolsand languagessuch as: 

• Rust 

• Node.js 

• C++ 

• Experience with network configurations, protocols, certificates, and firewalls. 

• Experience with scripting in BASH orPowershell
