Senior Cloud Developer for an opportunity with our client in the healthcare insurance industry.
Work location: Onsite in Columbia, SC; will consider hybrid and remote candidates
Duration: 6 months
Shift: 8:30AM-5:00PM; possible overtime when needed to meet project timelines.
Terms: W2 Contract
About the team:- TPA Cloud Migration is an exciting new opportunity at TPA. The new team will be dedicated to migrating application to the CMS AWS Cloud.

Responsibilities: - Lead the design, development, and deployment of cloud-native applications while ensuring alignment with architectural standards and business goals.
- Review code mergers and CI/CD pipeline activity using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ensuring that builds and deployments are running smoothly.
- Actively build and integrate cloud-based solutions using AWS, leveraging services like compute, storage, and serverless functions.
- Write infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or ARM templates to provision and manage cloud infrastructure in a repeatable and scalable way.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design APIs, review architecture, and evaluate modern technologies for future integration.
- Play a key role in mentoring junior developers, enforcing coding standards, and ensuring security best practices are followed across all cloud development activities.
- Provide expertise regarding the integration of cloud applications, lead the planning, design, and implementation of cloud system software-including coding and testing-and act as an internal consultant, offering technical guidance on complex cloud projects.
Required qualifications: - Full stack software engineering development experience for Java/Java EE ecosystems with Spring Framework & JPA and JavaScript frameworks.
- Agile & Medicare Experience
- Hand-on experience with AWS Cloud or Azure and lift-and-shift or re-platforming projects.
- Work with cloud architects to resilient, High Availability (HA), and fault-tolerant systems following the Cloud well-architected framework.
- Required experience with mTLS, certificate lifecycle management, identity/security best practices
- AWS Cloud or other Cloud Platform hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider is essential for designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native applications and services.
- AWS Services – EC2, Lambda, RDS, Aurora, S3, VPC, IAM, EKS/ECS, Dynamo DB, API Gateway, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Secrets Manager
- Setting up log aggregation, tracking, and monitoring using Splunk, CloudWatch, and X-Ray.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Tools – Terraform, ARM Templates, or CloudFormation, required for automating infrastructure provisioning and ensuring consistency across environments. Security & Compliance Frameworks (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP)
- CI/CD & DevSecOps Tools – Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Selenium, SonarQube, Synk, AWS CodePipeline or Azure DevOps, Proficiency in setting up and managing continuous integration and deployment pipelines is critical for modern cloud development workflows.
- Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility, remediation and WCAG standards.
Required education: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other job related degree;
- OR 4 years of job related experience;
- OR 2 years of job related experience plus an Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other job related degree
Required work experience: - 8 years of application development, systems testing or other job related experience
Preferred qualifications:- Serverless Architectures, Security Best Practices in cloud-native Development
- Cloud certifications.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, ECS/Faregate or Kubernetes)
- Understanding secure coding practices, identity, and access management (IAM), and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FedRAMP) is a strong asset in regulated environments.
Soft skills: - Strong communication skills: Essential for leading technical discussions, presenting architectural decisions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The lead developer often participates in team presentations, stakeholder meetings, and documentation reviews.
- Leadership & mentorship: This role involves guiding junior developers, setting coding standards, and making architectural decisions. Strong leadership ensures consistency, quality, and team growth.
- Adaptability & agility: Cloud technologies evolve rapidly. The ability to quickly learn new tools, pivot strategies, and adapt to changing project requirements is crucial in a dynamic cloud environment.
- Problem solving & critical thinking: This role requires diagnosing complex issues in distributed systems, optimizing performance, and designing scalable solutions. Strong analytical skills help in making sound technical decisions.
- Collaboration & teamwork: This role works closely with DevOps, security, product owners, and other developers. Being a team player ensures smooth integration and alignment across the development lifecycle.
