Job Summary:

The Office of Medical Education (OME) with the University of Colorado's School of Medicine (SOM) is searching for a Senior Clerkship Phase Director.

The School of Medicine's Office of Medical Education has transitioned the core clinical curriculum into an LIC model, as part of a larger scale full curriculum overhaul. Core clinical education will occur in a longitudinal, integrated fashion primarily in an outpatient setting, with targeted hospital-based training called immersions placed during the core clinical year. Core competencies will be taught encompassing care of adults, children, and pregnant patients taught by providers representing the disciplines of family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, surgery, and emergency medicine.

A longitudinal integrated clerkship (LIC) was created based on three foundational characteristics of an effective, core clinical educational environment:

• Student participation in comprehensive care of patients over time
• Presence of a continuous, learning relationship with those patients'' clinicians
• Meeting a majority of core clinical competencies in an ongoing, continuous fashion through those experiences

Key Responsibilities:

10% - Foothills operational support

• Participate in Foothills administrative team meetings
• Support of calendaring and scheduling of Foothills curriculum
• Support of LIC Close-to-home process and LIC student match

30% - Curriculum leadership

• Chair or support of chair for all CPCC task forces to ensure accountability and deliverables
• Co-Chair CPCC meetings, aiding in the development of the agenda, review of minutes, ensuring deliverables are achieved, and planning committee work
• Oversight of artificial intelligence evolving processes and policies related to AI in clinical education including:

o Chair of Foothills AI work group

o Close collaboration with AEO innovation lead and digital health content director

o Close tracking of clinical partners' rapidly changing AI adoption and policy changes to allow flexibility and adaptation in clinical medical education

o Lead communication of evolving processes with stakeholders including CCDs, LIC directors, liaisons, and preceptors

40% - Liaison oversight and management

• Lead hiring and onboarding of LIC directors and liaisons
• Participate or chair searches, lead role in logistics of searches
• Develop and lead onboarding and orientation for and liaisons in coordination with administrative staff
• Supervise liaison performance

o Collaborate with LIC directors and CCDs for periodic performance review for all liaisons

o Provide targeted feedback and coaching for liaisons identified to need additional support

• Through the supervision of liaisons, lead in management of liaison work in key workflow areas that require close communication and collaboration with both LIC directors and CCDs

o Preceptor recruitment and equitable student assignment to sites

o Delivery of core Foothills curriculum

o Implementation of assessment processes

• Close collaboration with Assistant Dean of Clerkships to identify LIC sites and/or liaisons that require focused problem-solving, then employ a broad perspective and LIC director lens to address gaps and bridge communication to CCD
• Attend collaborative monthly meetings with Clinical Pillar Director, Asst Dean of Clerkships, and each CCD to represent concerns and solutions raised by liaisons
• Ensure close collaboration between directors, curriculum managers, coordinators, CCDs and liaisons with variable needs between LIC sites including lead role on AMC campus of coordination of cross-LIC collaborations

10% - Foothills phase leadership/faculty support

• Support faculty development across the phase with oversight of programming delivered annually to all preceptors and locally by LICs including faculty manuals and new faculty orientation
• Support in planning and execution of faculty retreats

10% - Student support

• Oversight of student orientation materials update annually
• Participation in end-of-year concentration/exploration celebration events
• Support of individual students on as needed basis
• Participate in LIC director faculty development for support of struggling students

Other Expectations:

• Direct supervision of specialty liaisons associated with the Community Health, Children's Hospital, Highlands Ranch, University Hospital, and VA LICs
• Indirect supervision ("dotted line") supervision in collaboration with LIC directors of specialty liaisons associated with the Colorado Springs, Denver Health, Kaiser Permanente, Longmont/Boulder and Northern Colorado LICs

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor:

• Candidates must be able to obtain an Instructor faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
• Applicants must be a board-certified physician with an MD or DO from an accredited University
• Applicants must have permission from their clinic or department to assume role

Senior Instructor:

• Candidates must be able to obtain a Senior Instructor faculty appointment at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
• Applicants must be a board-certified physician with an MD or DO from an accredited University

Assistant Professor:
