Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This position serves as a senior project manager and/or program authority of the Department. The employee performs administrative duties such as planning, organizing, and managing the daily operations, ensuring quality assurance, managing assigned staff supporting design and construction projects (e.g., construction management, real estate, mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineering) for facilities initiatives from inception to completion. The employee supervises a staff of project managers and assistant project managers to accomplish the goals of the department. Work is performed under the direction of the Facilities Director.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This employee plans, formulates, and implements short- and long-term goals for capital improvement projects and provides architectural/engineering consulting services, providing technical expertise in the evaluation of problems and development of alternatives for construction projects. The employee plans, organizes, and coordinates projects; develops scope, schedule and budget for projects; reviews reports, budgets and project goals. The employee prepares, reviews, analyzes, and presents capital budgets, including long term capital expenditures and capital improvement plans. As supervisor for less senior project managers, the employee establishes and implements operating policies and procedures. Supervision and progress are checked through review of reports and project evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, architecture, or construction management and six years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience (architectural, civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical engineering) OR a two year degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management and ten years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience (architectural, civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical engineering).

Working Conditions and Physical Demands of Work
Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Operates standard office equipment to include a personal computer, calculator, copy machine, and telephone. The employee will drive a county vehicle to county facilities and construction sites throughout the county. Frequent review of construction projects is required, which involves walking and working outside in variable weather conditions.
Driving is Essential
Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
