Description
Our client is a nationally recognized engineering firm seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead bridge and transportation projects from their Towson, MD, area office. This role offers the chance to work on highway and pedestrian bridge design, retaining wall projects, and load rating assignments for public and private clients across the region. The ideal candidate brings a decade of structural design leadership experience and is ready to take on a greater technical leadership role.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead technical direction on bridge and structural design projects from concept through completion.
- Plan and oversee multi-discipline projects, including bridge work with significant technical complexity.
- Handle in-person bridge inspection duties.
- Build and maintain client relationships through design, marketing, and contractual meetings.
- Guide schematic development and design sessions alongside project managers and technical staff.
- Coordinate staffing and workload to keep project documentation on schedule.
- Review project deliverables to confirm they meet applicable engineering standards.
- Apply QA/QC procedures and review bridge plans throughout each project.
- Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and project managers.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain one through reciprocity within six months.
- 10+ years of experience managing structural or bridge design projects and client relationships.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office and standard engineering documentation practices.
- Proven communication, leadership, and organizational skills across design teams.
- Comfortable performing hands-on bridge inspections at height when needed.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally, with occasional overnight travel.
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Familiarity with bridge design software such as LEAP Bridge, LARSA 4D, or AASHTOWare BrR is a plus.
