Senior BIOS / UEFI Engineer – New Product Development

This is an opportunity to join the Huntsville engineering organization as the site's key BIOS/UEFI specialist, working closely with hardware, FPGA, firmware, and software engineers on next-generation embedded computing products.
You will work on new product development, starting with an AMI/Intel reference BIOS and customizing it for newly designed hardware. You will have meaningful ownership of how the BIOS is developed and will be involved from initial board bring-up through a working product.
Become the primary BIOS/UEFI technical specialist in the Huntsville organization.
Work directly with hardware and firmware engineers during new board bring-up.
Customize and develop BIOS for new embedded computing platforms rather than simply maintaining legacy code.
Start with AMI BIOS / Intel reference BIOS and adapt it to hardware.
Work at the fundamental platform level where hardware, firmware, BIOS, and operating systems come together.
Have significant technical ownership and latitude in BIOS development.
Solve challenging hardware-versus-firmware issues alongside engineers from multiple disciplines.
Take products from early hardware/BIOS bring-up toward production.
The hiring team is specifically looking for someone who has personally developed UEFI BIOS and participated in board bring-up on hardware running the BIOS they developed.

As a Senior BIOS / UEFI Engineer, you will develop and customize BIOS for new products that are rugged embedded computing platforms. You will work from an AMI/Intel reference BIOS, adapt it to new hardware, and support BIOS bring-up alongside the hardware and firmware teams.
Your work will include:
Developing and customizing UEFI BIOS for new products.
Performing BIOS bring-up on newly designed boards.
Debugging hardware/firmware issues during initial board startup.
Working with hardware, FPGA, and other firmware engineers to validate system functionality.
Supporting interfaces such as USB, PCI Express, SATA, and other board-level functionality.
Taking BIOS development from initial bring-up through production.
5+ years of hands-on BIOS development experience. (will consider less for exceptional background)
Strong experience developing UEFI BIOS; modern UEFI experience is required rather than legacy BIOS exposure alone.
Demonstrated experience personally developing BIOS, not simply working with systems that use BIOS.
Experience with BIOS bring-up on newly designed hardware.
Experience where the candidate's BIOS actually ran on the board they helped bring up.
Strong working proficiency in C.
Ability to perform low-level programming involving registers, memory, and peripherals.
Experience customizing or porting BIOS to new hardware.
Strong understanding of hardware/firmware interaction.
Experience troubleshooting hardware and firmware integration issues during board bring-up.
Ability to work directly with hardware engineers and other engineering disciplines.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Willingness and ability to work full-time on-site in Huntsville, Alabama.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $190,000
