    Senior AWS Certified Welding Inspector – Sacramento, CA

    Twining Consulting, an innovative engineering, inspection, and consulting company, is seeking a Senior AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) for its operations in Sacramento, the Bay Area, and surrounding Northern California regions. This senior-level position will serve as a technical leader responsible for structural steel inspection, welding inspection, nondestructive testing oversight, quality assurance, client consultation, and mentoring junior inspection personnel on commercial, industrial, transportation, and infrastructure projects.

    Responsibilities
    • Perform structural steel and welding inspections in accordance with project specifications, AWS codes, building codes, and applicable standards.
    • Serve as the lead welding inspection representative on complex projects involving structural steel fabrication, erection, bridges, transportation, industrial, and heavy civil infrastructure.
    • Provide technical direction, training, and mentorship to junior inspectors and project personnel.
    • Lead resolution of field quality issues and identify, document, and communicate nonconforming work and corrective actions to appropriate project personnel.
    • Review fabrication and erection activities to verify compliance with approved drawings, welding procedures, and contract requirements.
    • Evaluate weld preparation, fit-up, welding operations, and completed welds to ensure quality and code compliance.
    • Document inspection findings and prepare clear, accurate, and timely daily reports.
    • Coordinate with contractors, fabricators, owners, engineers, and Project Managers regarding inspection activities and project requirements.
    • Review welder qualifications, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and related quality control documentation.
    • Witness and document high-strength bolting inspections and structural steel erection activities when required.
    • Perform or oversee nondestructive testing activities and verify compliance with applicable standards.
    • Provide technical support to project teams and assist with resolving field issues.
    • Maintain certifications, technical proficiency, and compliance with company quality procedures.
    • Represent Twining Consulting professionally while maintaining strong client relationships.
    • Prepare electronic daily reports, certifications, photographs, and project documentation using company-approved software.
    • Utilize digital systems for project tracking, communication, scheduling, and document management.
    Requirements
    • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
    • Minimum of 7 years of structural steel and welding inspection experience, including experience on complex commercial, industrial, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
    • Advanced knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel and applicable building code requirements.
    • Demonstrated experience reviewing and evaluating WPSs, PQRs, WPQs, fabrication quality systems, and welding quality documentation.
    • Experience leading inspection teams, mentoring inspectors, and providing technical direction on projects.
    • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, structural details, specifications, and welding symbols.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
    • Valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record required.
    • Ability to travel throughout Sacramento, the Bay Area, and surrounding Northern California regions.
    • Ability to work early morning, evening, night, weekend, and overtime assignments as project schedules require.
    • Ability to work in fabrication shops, active construction sites, industrial facilities, bridge projects, and transportation infrastructure while maintaining safety and quality standards.
    • Knowledge of digital reporting platforms and electronic inspection documentation preferred.
    • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and structural steel and lift up to 50 pounds.
    • ASNT Level II Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Certification preferred.
    • ASNT Level II Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Certification preferred.
    • ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector Certification preferred.
    • ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector Certification preferred.
    • Experience with bridge, transportation, industrial, or heavy civil infrastructure projects preferred.
    • Additional NDT certifications, including PT or RT, highly desirable.
    • Other special inspection certifications from ICC or ACI preferred.
