Role Overview:

The Senior Audit Manager provides high level leadership in planning, executing, and overseeing financial statement audits for governmental entities across Indiana. This position ensures all audit work complies with State Board of Accounts standards, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), and other applicable regulatory requirements. The Senior Audit Manager supervises audit teams, leads complex engagements, and contributes to continuous improvement of audit quality and statewide consistency.

Salary:

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provide direction in the proper application of federal and state auditing and accounting guidelines.
  • Assist Supervisors in identifying the necessary training needs.
  • Ensure assigned projects are compliant with applicable agency policies and procedures.
  • Review and approve reports prepared by the field staff.
  • Serve as subject matter expert, providing direction in the proper application of federal and state auditing and accounting guidelines.
  • Manage workflow redirecting work assignments and work locations as needed.
  • Provide immediate supervision to employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing corrective actions and opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Offer recommendations to the leadership on innovative techniques to improve the processes and systems.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
  • Essential functions of this position require travel on most workdays to inspect, audit, examine, survey, or investigate clients, customers, or other regulated entities and write reports at those sites or employee's home. Employee reports to the agency's office for occasional meetings or events. This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What Youll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

  • A Certified Professional Accountant (CPA).
  • Must attend a minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education annually to keep abreast of changes in statutes and accounting theories and principles.
  • Must have strong supervisory skills and leadership abilities on all matters regarding the interpretation and application of federal and state auditing policies, procedures, agency objectives and goals.
  • Broad knowledge of all governmental and generally accepted accounting and auditing standards.
  • Broad knowledge of the functional and specific organizational characteristics of the multiple units audited in the public and or private sector clients.
  • Ability to apply principles, practices, and audit techniques to accounting systems.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze and record data and fiscal information to reach logical conclusions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to modify and/or design the audit plan procedures as a result of the review of the control structure at the audit site.
  • Ability to study and evaluate financial and managerial control structures for both manual and computer systems.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to tactfully manage a difficult situation(s) with a member of the public or client.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

A degree is not required. However, at least seven (7) years of experience in auditing or related areas and at least two (2) years of supervisory experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
