The successful candidate will work independently on litigation and legal matters, offering day-to-day legal advice, preparing legal documents, and representing the district in meetings and committees.Qualifications and RequirementsAdmission to practice law in the State of New Jersey.Eight or more years of experience in the practice of law, with experience in the representation of school districts before courts and administrative agencies preferred.Demonstrated experience in public contract law, special education, and/or labor/employment litigation.Proficiency in applicable computer programs (Lexis, Westlaw, Word, Windows, Excel).Working knowledge of federal and state laws applicable to school districts in New Jersey.Basic Functions and ResponsibilitiesRepresents the Newark Board of Education in litigation and legal matters by independently handling proceedings before courts and agencies from inception to conclusion.Locates and interviews fact witnesses, maintains files and exhibits, and prepares all necessary legal documents.Renders appropriate day‑to‑day oral and written legal advice to District administrators and board members.Prepares formal and informal memoranda, opinions, pleadings, trial and appellate briefs, revisions to administrative rules, and legal and general correspondence for the signature of the General Counsel, Superintendent, or other administrators.Represents the District at meetings, serves on committees, and engages in projects as directed by the Superintendent or General Counsel.Salary, Employment Period, and Union AffiliationSalary Range: Competitive and based on education and experience.Employment Period: Twelve (12) months.Union Affiliation: Unaffiliated.BenefitsFull‑time staff receive a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, prescription drug, employer‑paid dental and vision coverage, wellness and voluntary benefit programs, paid time off, personal and sick days, and vacation days for twelve‑month employees.#J-18808-Ljbffr
