Job DetailsWe are seeking an experienced commercial real estate litigator at the partner or senior associate level to join and help lead our busy and growing litigation practice.
This is a senior role for an attorney who combines excellent litigation skills with sound judgment, strong client-management abilities, and the ability to lead matters and teams effectively. The successful candidate will work closely with the firm's partners and existing litigation team to manage a sophisticated and expanding caseload, supervise and develop attorneys and paralegals, and help shape the continued growth of the litigation practice.
We are particularly interested in candidates with substantial experience handling disputes involving commercial real estate, including landlord-tenant matters, lease disputes, purchase and sale disputes, partnership and ownership disputes, contractual claims, and other litigation arising from real estate ownership, development, operation, and investment.
Responsibilities
- Take a leading role in managing a busy portfolio of commercial real estate litigation matters from
inception through resolution.
- Develop litigation strategy and provide practical, commercially focused advice to sophisticated real
estate clients.
- Handle complex disputes involving commercial leases, landlord-tenant relationships, unlawful detainer
and possession matters, purchase and sale agreements, real estate partnerships and joint ventures,
property ownership and management, and other commercial real estate matters.
- Draft and supervise the preparation of pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, settlement agreements,
and other litigation documents.
- Manage all phases of discovery, including document discovery, written discovery, depositions, expert
discovery, and related strategy.
- Prepare for and handle mediations, arbitrations, hearings, trials, and other contested proceedings as
appropriate.
- Manage client relationships and serve as a trusted adviser to clients on both litigation strategy and
broader business considerations.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 8–12 years of sophisticated commercial litigation experience, preferably with a significant concentration in commercial real estate litigation.
- Experience at a highly regarded law firm or sophisticated real estate litigation practice.
- Substantial experience independently managing complex litigation matters and client relationships.
- Strong knowledge of California civil litigation practice and procedure.
- Experience with commercial landlord-tenant disputes and other real estate-related litigation strongly preferred.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and oral advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop litigation strategy and exercise sound judgment with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational and matter-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple active matters and competing deadlines.
- Experience supervising and mentoring attorneys, paralegals, and other litigation professionals.
- Membership in good standing with the California Bar.
Partner-Level Candidates
For candidates seeking to join at the partner level, we will consider a range of backgrounds and practice profiles. A portable book of business or established client relationships is preferred but not required. Of equal importance are demonstrated litigation expertise, leadership ability, strong client relationships, sound judgment, and the ability and desire to contribute meaningfully to the growth and management of the practice.
The firm is particularly interested in senior associates who are excited by the opportunity to take an active role in building a growing litigation team rather than simply joining an established institutional structure.
