The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
The OAG is seeking an accomplished and motivated Senior Assistant Attorney General (AAG) to join the Opioids Enforcement Unit within the Consumer Protection Division. The Division comprises approximately 23 enforcement AAGs operating across the General Enforcement, Lending and Finance, Health, Opioids, and Registration Units. The Opioids Enforcement Unit itself includes four Assistant Attorneys General, two Investigators, and one legal support professional, all dedicated to protecting Marylanders from deceptive and harmful practices related to controlled substances.
In this role, the AAG will lead and support high‑stakes, complex enforcement efforts under the Consumer Protection Act and related statutes, with a primary focus on addressing the unlawful marketing, sale, and distribution of opioids and other controlled substances. Responsibilities include conducting sophisticated investigations, evaluating potential violations, and initiating and litigating enforcement actions where warranted. This is a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Maryland’s ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and safeguard public health.
Ideal candidates will bring strong litigation experience, excellent negotiation skills, and superior legal research and writing abilities. The position requires a demonstrated commitment to the mission of the OAG and the Consumer Protection Division. Occasional travel and work outside standard business hours may be necessary.

Experience in complex civil litigation (such as class action, mass tort, multidistrict, food and drug, or similar litigation) and administrative litigation is highly desirable. Experience handling legal matters at both the federal and state levels is preferred. Admission to the Maryland Bar (or the ability to waive in) is required.
