Senior Application Programmer - Mainframe Systems

? $75-$80/hour

? 12-Month Contract with Potential Extension

We are seeking an experienced Senior Application Programmer - Mainframe Systems to support the development, maintenance, enhancement, and implementation of complex enterprise applications in a large-scale mainframe environment. This role will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting critical business applications while collaborating with technical and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, modify, test, implement, and support complex mainframe applications.
  • Analyze business and system requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain application architecture, program specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues while ensuring system reliability and performance.
  • Perform coding, debugging, testing, and implementation of new and existing software solutions.
  • Support database integrations, transaction processing, and enterprise application functionality.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to application design, processes, and technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with information security policies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and business users throughout the development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in electronic data processing systems design and programming.

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with IMS, DB2, COBOL, and CICS programming in a mainframe environment.

  • Strong experience with:

  • COBOL

  • IMS/DB/DC

  • DB2/SQL

  • CICS

  • JCL

  • MVS TSO/ISPF

  • VSAM

  • CA Endevor

  • IBM z/OS

  • Experience with database technologies including DB2, IMS, ADABAS, and FOCUS.

  • Knowledge of systems design, software development methodologies, testing, implementation, and support.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Work Environment

  • Initially onsite Monday through Friday.
  • Opportunity for limited telework (up to 2 days per week) based on project requirements after onboarding.
  • Standard business hours.

Additional Requirements

  • Must possess strong experience supporting and maintaining enterprise-level mainframe systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex technical environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
