Senior Analyst – Cloud FinOps & Technology Analytics
Location: Hybrid,2 Consecutive Onsite Days per Month (Newark, NJ)
(No relocation necessary, This is a contract-to-hire opportunity that is primarily remote, requiring onsite attendance in Newark, NJ for two consecutive days per month. We cover your hotel accommodations for the onsite visits, while you would be responsible for your travel expenses.)
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Analyst to support cloud financial management, technology analytics, and operational reporting within a modern Data & Analytics environment.
This role will focus on understanding and analyzing cloud and technology consumption, licensing, costs, budgets, and forecasts across platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Power BI, AWS, and Azure. The Senior Analyst will work closely with technology leaders and cross-functional teams to identify cost drivers, uncover trends and potential issues, improve financial visibility, and help drive actions based on the analysis.
This is not a traditional finance or project management position. The ideal candidate combines financial and analytical skills with an understanding of cloud technology and the ability to work hands-on with data. The individual should be comfortable analyzing detailed information, developing dashboards and reporting, identifying issues and trends, and translating findings into clear insights for technology leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze cloud and technology consumption, licensing, and costs across platforms including Databricks, Snowflake, Power BI, AWS, and Azure.
- Develop a strong understanding of platform licensing and consumption models and help identify opportunities to better manage and control technology costs.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for cloud platforms, software licensing, and related technology services.
- Perform hands-on analysis of financial, consumption, operational, and technology data to identify trends, anomalies, risks, and opportunities.
- Analyze and interpret data from multiple sources, identifying relationships and insights that may not be apparent through standard financial reporting.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and recurring analytics that provide technology leaders with visibility into consumption, costs, forecasts, trends, and operational issues.
- Translate complex financial and technology information into clear, actionable insights for Directors, VPs, and other stakeholders.
- Proactively identify emerging issues, investigate root causes, and work across teams to help drive appropriate actions and resolution.
- Track significant issues, risks, commitments, and key deliverables requiring leadership visibility or escalation.
- Monitor identified actions and issues through resolution while partnering with the appropriate owners across a matrixed organization.
- Support cloud cost optimization efforts by identifying unusual consumption patterns, inefficient utilization, licensing opportunities, and other potential cost drivers.
- Partner with Finance, technology teams, platform owners, engineering, procurement, and other stakeholders to improve cost transparency and financial planning.
- Assist leadership with ad hoc analysis, business reviews, executive reporting, and other strategic or operational initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in technology financial analysis, FinOps, cloud financial management, IT finance, technology analytics, business analytics, or a related analytical role.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and variance analysis within a technology or cloud environment.
- Understanding of cloud-based consumption, licensing, and/or usage-based pricing models.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated experience working hands-on with complex data to identify trends, issues, and actionable insights.
- Experience developing dashboards, management reporting, or executive-level analytics.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with data visualization and reporting tools such as Power BI.
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of financial, technical, and operational information into concise findings and recommendations.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and help drive actions through resolution.
- Ability to work effectively across a matrixed organization and coordinate with stakeholders from multiple functional areas.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior technology leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, and/or Power BI licensing, capacity, consumption, or cost management.
- Experience analyzing AWS and/or Azure cloud costs and consumption.
- Familiarity with FinOps principles and cloud cost optimization practices.
- Experience using Power BI to create dashboards and management reporting.
- Experience with SQL or other tools used to analyze and manipulate large datasets.
- Experience supporting Data & Analytics, cloud platforms, or other technology organizations.
- FinOps certification or related cloud/technology certification is a plus but not required.
