The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Airworthiness & Regulatory Engineer (Level 4 or Level 5) to join the Regulatory Administration and Airworthiness organization in NorthCharleston, South Carolina.

The successful candidate is a high-performing individual contributor who is seeking to develop Lead experience or a current Team Lead seeking to expand their breadth by working with global regulators in Commercial Aviation.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels and Senior Airworthiness & Regulatory Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical guidance and training relative to complex safety and airworthiness matters

  • Navigates through various regulatory processes to identify effective solutions for complex problems, while providing guidance to all airplane programs

  • Coordinates with engineering teams, project administrators, and regulators (may include international regulators/validation authorities) to successfully certify projects for commercial aircraft production teams

  • Reviews certification plans, write letters to regulators, and understand compliance process

  • Leads and facilitate discussions with the FAA, foreign regulatory agencies, and airplane program leaders

  • Leads cross-functional teams resulting in resolution of technical issues

  • Coordinates technical messaging and partnering with the FAA on regulatory issues

  • Owns, manages, and has developed technical aptitude to enable execution of process/procedure documents (BPM, BPIs, D6s, D950s, etc.)

  • Ensures proper coordination across products, platforms and functional areas to promote culture of compliance to requirements and application of procedures and FAA guidance

  • Develops strategic action plans for changes to certification processes and execute those plans through completion

  • Contributes to root cause corrective action plans for development and execution of noncompliance’s, voluntary disclosures, informal corrective actions, formal corrective actions, etc. including reviewing/researching processes, design practices, analysis, conducting root cause analysis, and identifying/owning corrective actions and corrective action plans

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Data Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry

  • 9+ years of engineering related work experience

  • 5+ years of experience working directly with the FAA and/or ODA on Type Certification projects

  • 5+ years of experience in developing, contributing and/or maintaining processes, policies, and procedures

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 14+ years of engineering related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Engineering unit member or another FAA delegated member

  • Experience working across the certification value stream

  • Experience communicating verbally and in writing, to a variety of audiences including FAA representation, ODA Leadership, Engineering Unit Members (E-UM) & Project Administrators (PA), and Program & Functional Leaders

  • Experience coaching/teaching E-UMs, Design Approval Engineers, Technical Specialists, Cert Plan Owners/Authors on certification processes and tool usage

  • Experience identifying web application impact due to changes in certification requirements

  • Systems thinker capable of making engineering proposals based on data analysis and forecasting wide reaching and longer-term impacts

  • Experience developing presentations and presenting to multiple levels of an organization

  • Experience investigating and finding solutions to complex technical or regulatory issues

  • Experience recognizing and balance conflicting priorities

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range Senior (Level 4): $131,750 - $178,250            

Summary Pay Range Senior (Level 5): $159,800 - $216,200
