Senior AI Engineer

We deploy on customer terms: SaaS multi-tenant, SaaS single-tenant, and on-premises, across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Our customers are Fortune 500 finance teams who require data isolation, auditability, and compliance.

The Role

The Architect / Senior Architect at MeeruAI is the highest technical authority on how the platform is built, owning the end-to-end data and platform architecture across every layer, cloud, and deployment model.

You are not architecting generic SaaS. The platform deploys into enterprise finance environments and produces output that sits next to externally reported financials, so correctness, traceability, and auditability are first-class architectural requirements. Verifiable results stay clearly separated from AI-generated suggestions that need human review.

This is a hands-on role, not an ivory-tower one. You write reference implementations, run design reviews, and work in a tight loop with Product, the founders, and customer stakeholders, which is why the role is hybrid in the Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the system architecture. Every layer from the customer-hosted data foundation through computation and AI services to the application and review experience, plus the boundaries between them.
• Steward the core data contracts. The unified data model, the standardized structure for analytical output, and the configuration that drives each domain, so a new customer or domain is a configuration change, not a code fork.
• Design guardrails and controls. Guardrails over AI-generated output as an enforced architectural property, per-tenant and per-feature controls over automated behavior, and graceful degradation to verifiable results.
• Own multi-cloud, multi-tenant deployment. Portable architecture across AWS, Azure, and GCP for SaaS multi-tenant, single-tenant, and customer-cloud delivery, with tenant isolation, no data egress, and managed-LLM-in-VPC patterns.
• Set standards for security and auditability. SOC 2-aligned standards for correctness, traceability, and security, with every result traceable to source in one or two hops, and support for enterprise security reviews.
• Lead technically. Set direction, resolve cross-team trade-offs, and mentor senior engineers.

Requirements

• Architect-level experience. Typically 10+ years or equivalent experience building production data and backend systems, including significant Staff+ or Architect time owning system-level design.
• A gift for abstractions. Designs that absorb variation through configuration rather than bespoke code.
• Multi-tenant, cloud-native platforms. A track record designing them with strong isolation and security, ideally deployed into customers' own clouds.
• Cloud and infrastructure fluency. At least two of AWS, Azure, and GCP, plus Kubernetes and Terraform, with portability-first design.
• Depth across the stack. Warehouse data modeling and SQL, backend services, and enough ML and LLM fluency to architect their integration well.

Nice-to-Have

• Finance or accounting domain. How financial statements are built and reconciled, and the controls and audit expectations around them.
• Data tooling. dbt or Airflow-style transforms, Snowflake or PostgreSQL.
• Enterprise security reviews. Supporting SOC 2 or ISO 27001 compliance work.
• Environments you don’t control. Platforms that deploy into customer infrastructure.
