Job Title: Senior Accounting Clerk
Pay: $32.56 - $45.00 per hour
Hours: Monday–Thursday, 4/10 schedule
Start Date: ASAP

As a Senior Accounting Clerk, you’ll be responsible for managing crucial accounting functions to ensure accuracy and efficiency across financial processes. You will work independently but as part of a supportive Finance team, exercising sound judgment and initiative to keep operations running smoothly.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Accounting Clerk, you will be responsible for:
  • Processing accounts payable invoices and maintaining accurate records
  • Reviewing and processing internal and external payment documentation
  • Handling wire transfers, including payroll-related transactions, through the Accounts Payable sub-ledger
  • Reviewing and processing employee expense reimbursements
  • Performing invoice corrections, purchase order adjustments, and coding updates
  • Preparing quarterly FPPC reporting and tracking lobbying hours
  • Performing account analysis and general ledger reconciliations
  • Preparing year-end 1099 reporting
  • Assisting with audit schedules and supporting year-end audits
  • Maintaining organized financial records and files
  • Responding to vendor and internal department inquiries
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Following safety policies and performing related duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
  • Associate degree (or equivalent) with coursework in Accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Four or more years of general accounting experience
  • Experience processing and reconciling cash receipts/payments for a utility or public agency
  • Experience with accounts payable, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in 10-key by touch
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Business Suite R12 (Payables & General Ledger)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to create detailed spreadsheets, amortization schedules, and financial reports using advanced Excel functions

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in water, wastewater, electric, gas, or other utility environments
  • Knowledge of utility cash receipts and customer payment processing
  • Cash balancing, daily deposits, and payment reconciliation
  • General ledger reconciliations and month-end closing
  • Understanding of public sector accounting practices and internal controls
  • Year-end reporting, including 1099 prep and audit support

  • Oracle EBS R12, Payables, & GL system expertise
  • Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and analytical mindset
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective organizational and time management abilities
